Hi,

Tried to change the belt to my 2,3 (with A/C). The tensioner seems to be stuck badly. Tried using quite much force, but nothing happened. Didn't dare to use more...

I sprayed some lubricant to it (to the hole from which the spring can be seen) yesterday, but haven't tried again yet.

Any good advices how to make it loose?

Not familiar with the 2.3 let alone A/C but the tensioner is quite hard to move. With a socket on the nut in the middle of the pulley and a ratchet or bar pointing away from the tesioner pivot point you still have to push down on the bar/ratchet fairly hard. If it still doesn't budge I can only sugest cutting the belt, watch out for the tensioner springing up. If the tensioner still doesn't move then it's seized. You may be able to free it up but plan on replacing it with another (2nd hand?) tensioner.

Have you tried pulling the tensioner downwards from underneath the vehicle..... you can use more of your body weight that way ;)

As the tensioner  is below  the thermostat  housing  I suspect  leaked  coolant  may  have  contributed  to the seizing  up  of  the  spring  in the pulley arm.

  I would cut the belt and  try  to  free the arm  up  with plenty of  WD40   ( a good smack with  hefty hammer may be needed ).

Same problem last year.

Squirted normal oil where you can see the spring followed by half a can of WD....
Next morning quick sharp yank ...no problem... ;D
Just surroud lower part with an old rag for the run off..

It has a chain for timing but this thread is on about the belt and tensioner for the alternator/water pump etc.

Further to all points above, having just changed alternator on my 2.9 12v - thought tensioner was going to be a pain but found 2 ft pipe (part of trolley jack handle) on the socket wrench (turned clockwise) made moving the tensioner effortless, down to release the belt, and later to replace belt.  There was no way I could have moved it without the extension - also valued my knuckles!
