Title: Re: stuck speedo dial Post by TiberiuS on Oct 19th, 2006, 8:12pm Ahhh, the demon speedo dial strikes again, eh? A common thing apparently, has claimed a few victims in these parts recently. Instrument reset as it is called means that most likely your car battery is on its last knockings, if the battery voltage falls below a certain level then all the instruments flick around when you turn the ignition on. Get a new battery on and see how you go. As for resetting it, several members on here have ways of doing so, one involves drilling a small hole in the perspex and putting a wire in to flick it back round, I'm not sure if you can remove the perspex lens from the instruments and do it that way. Hope this helps and welcome to the forum. Regards, Bruce :). |

Title: Re: stuck speedo dial Post by harry.m1byt on Oct 19th, 2006, 10:42pm This happened to my Granada rev counter dial due to a glitch whilst reconnecting the battery. I ignored it with the intention of sorting it out when I had time, but it fixed itself a week later when I took the revs up to 4,000 as I happened to glance at it. It seems the stop pins are quite flexible and if the needle puts enough pressure on the pin it will give and allow the needle to move over it. So just driving it fast and perhaps giving it a thump might work. |

Title: Re: stuck speedo dial Post by ren on Oct 19th, 2006, 11:17pm as Tiberius says check your battery and see if its the right one some peeps have had lower rateing battery fitted and they dont keep enough charge in them, the scorpios rely on a good battery to keep all the system operative has the car needed a cpl turns of the key before fireing if so and you got spinning needles you must wait for the speedo tp go back to zero before turning key again , if the needle is around the 60 mark turning the key causes a spin again only this time its closer to the pin and will go past i removed the instrument panel to do mine and i dont recommend it, its a lot easier to sort out the battery, which i did.
