Title: right, here we go again....... Post by taliban on Nov 9th, 2006, 7:14pm as you know the other week i had trouble with water ingress in one or both fuse boxes, i cleaned and dried them, sorted. but yesterday it happened again! this time after continuously using the screen washers to empty the tank for some frost protecting wash i want to use. again, dried, cleaned, everything worked, so then sprayed with wd40 over outside of cases. used car in the evening, everything fine. this morning i noticed it had rained, put key in ignition, everything worked, except, the diesel glow plug heater light, uh oh, car wouldnt start, got bus to work, still no joy when i got home, battery now on charge. checked boxes quickly, both dry? as everything else is working fine, is there another 'dodgy' connection to check? or is water still getting into a fusebox somehow? |

If it rains outside or a lot of water comes on the windscreen it should get evacuated through thoes holes. In most of the cases the holes get dirty and water doesn't run out to quickly. When this is happening water ingreses from the under side of the fuse boxes :P |

Post by taliban on Nov 10th, 2006, 7:40pm interesting, couldnt find any actual drain holes, but, looking around the aux fuse box, i noticed it sits on ridges in the pressed steel bodywork, and there are 'gulleys' the water runs down. the main box sits at an angle and the gap between the box and wing forms a kind of gulley with the water exiting through a large gap at the front. i put the re charged battery back, still no glow plug light, but fired up under compression. i then found that by pressing on the aux box lid the engine note smoothed, turned her off, switched on again, hey presto, glow plug light back. i have now strapped the lid on and everything is fine, for the time being lol. |

Title: Re: right, here we go again....... Post by harry.m1byt on Nov 10th, 2006, 11:19pm The drain holes can be difficult to spot and might be concealed by a rubber flap valve. These let the water out, but help prevent (I suppose) the fumes and smells travelling back throught the bulhead. Follow the level of the floor below the battery and fuse boxes at the engine side of the bulhead, where you should be able to see the two rubber outlets - then makes sure they are clear of any debris. Another way might be to pour a small amount of water down at each side without wetting the electricals and see where it emerges. either side of the rear of the engine. They are quite easy to spot on a partially stripped car in a scrap yard, I try to make a point of having a good look at how they are put together when I do come across one. |
