Anyone else had this problem?.....People that don't know how to open doors?

......People who go to get in the Scorp.... & just stand there pulling the door handle up, expecting the door to spring open. :P

As you all know, I use my Scorp as a licenced Taxi. So alot of people get in it......thank god for black leather seats ;)

I'd say, about 25% of people pull the door handle & then shout "it's locked mate!!".
I gesture them to pull the door when pulling the handle & all is solved.
"Sorry mate, I didn't feel it click, so assumed it was locked"....
I explain that it ain't a Mondeo/Vectra/Octavia....it's a £28,000 Scorpio that has all the refinements that you would expect from a luxury car....including very silent, smooth working door handles....not your average Taxi ::)

After explaining this fact to the (dull) 25% of punters, they go to get out of the car & say..."the door won't open"....
I explain again that it's a £28,000 car & door catches are silent & smooth....."give it a nudge like you would any other car door"......
"oh yea....haha...see what you mean mate"

I had a passenger, while trying to get out, pull the N/S rear door handle so hard that it now protrudes.

And a drunk...thinking that the rear ashtray was the door handle...pull it clean out (breaking it in the process), & saying..."I think you should get your car looked at mate....the door handle just came off in my hand" >:(...........he woke up a few quid lighter the next morning ;D

So, anyway....anyone else had this kind of experience....'cos I'm starting to wonder whether my doors really are dodgy ;)

Every time i took for the first time a friend for a ride in my scorpio, they all have the "gift" of continuasly trying to open via the dor handles (and shouting hey mate stop jokeing, open up). It's annoynig because the door remanis half locked. It wan't open. So i need to lock and unlock them again. If the person is to dumb in the process, after i lock the dors he pulls again the handle.....when i unlock them....."just give me a shootgun".

We are getting towards the time of year of ice forming between the doors and the rubber seals making door opening tricky . Never had a car as bad as the Scorp for this problem, even in high Summer the seals can be sticky ( a sprinkling of Talc usually fixes it ).

I know about the sticky seals. Everytime I go out to work, I always open all the doors first. They seem worse after it's been raining. ;)

I think that a mixture of silent/smooth opening & heavy doors makes some people think that they are locked, & they don't want to break off the handle....how considerate :)

So does that mean that the people who just yank the door open, really couldn't give a stuff if they break the handle off or not ???...how inconsiderate ;D

Doors on the Scorp are lovely ;)

NO NEED TO SLAM THEM I always say...

Almost like they're weighted, never need slamming, neither does the boot.

There are a few touches on the Scorpio I'd really miss on another car, like the way the boot pops open on the remote and the way you don't have to SLAM the bonnet, boot or doors...

touching on the scorp doors has anyone s drivers side door barrel failed ..mine wont unlock or go to double lock ..dont say they used the notorious ford escort lock barrel!!!

we talking rebuild here????

Boot on mine has never unlocked with the key, if I put the key in and turn it I hit 2 notches then nothing, the button still works fine as does the remote so never bothered to do anything about it. You could try squirting some of the infamous WD40 and working it, other than that my advice is take it out and strip it.

Actually, how do you open the boot with the key? turn and push or what?

Turn the key to unlock AND then push the button with key still turned is the way I did it on the Granada.

When just unlocking the boot with the key or the remote - take great care not to put the keys down in the open boot, or if you slam it shut you will be locked out :o

Stafford, The method is detailed HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/doorlockbld.htm). If you also look at the replace article that will tell you how to get to it. In Phase 2 it talks about a bolt concealed behind a 'hatch' which is actually open in the photo. My advice would be to remove that 'flap' totally when/if you have it out. If not you MUST bend it back flush with the 'box' or the window carrier will foul on it when you try to raise or lower it.
