hi
are all scorpio head lights junk
because they only seem to light up the front bumper and not the road on mine

they are adjusted ok ,but they don't seem to give alot of light off i even put in brighter bulbs

next question = is there a dimmer switch inside the car for dash lights

The answer to your second point is NO. As for the first point there has been much comment and discussion on the subject and some people have found that cleaning the lenses etc has made a significant difference.

when you say clean the lens , i take it you mean strip the light down and clean the inside lens ???

I have a '96 2.3 and the headlamps on mine are better than most cars (including other Fords). 3 things which will kill the beam are: dirty lenses, bad beam adjustment and naff bulbs. Toyed with the idea of fitting xenons to mine for the unlit roads and mists this time of year but far safer to stick with good quality halogens.

Easiest way to check if the beam adjustment it in the right area is to park about 20 ft away from a wall and see if you get the dip pattern projected onto the wall in the right places (i.e the shadows on the dip being about 2-3 ft off the ground, the angled parts of the pattern pointing up to the left, if indeed the last 2 lines makes any sense at all :D).

The answer to B is no, do you really need one anyway? the dimmer in the Mondeo is a bloody nuisance and then when they get old they start to flicker... ;)

I'll try....

There should be a very precise pattern of light and shadow from the beams, a little like an L shape. Above and to the right of the L should be in shadow. On dip it should cast the beam down to light up the road a little way in front of you and light up the side of the road, pedestrians and signs. The corner of the L is the important bit to align correctly and if correct will project very little light into the eyes of on coming drivers.

The vertical part of the L, shining on the left is changed to light up the right hand side of the road when the lever on the back of the lights is moved to the continental driving position. This is left or right dip a Scorp feature which avoids the need to fix tape over the lens to bank out the vertical part - they work just as well whether set on right or left dip.

There are some headlights which ommit the vertical part of the L completely - these need no adjustment when crossing the channel.
