Hi,
I am new to the forum and looking for some advice,
I see that previous posts have covered the problems of no heat from the heater. My 24v ultima estste that I have recently purchased has this recuuring problem. I am going to try the methods suggested in previous posts, if this proves unsatisfactory and I resign myself to a matrix swap, I was thinkin of making a solution of caustic soda and water disconnecting matrix inlet and outlet, pouring the solution in, leave for a while, connect the other end to an air line with not to much pressure obviously, and see what happens. any one tried any thing like this.....desperate times call for desperate measures!

Tried all that, industrial descalers 150 psi airline, the lot, ended up fitting a matrix !

I tried for nearly a month flushing it with various different products. It seemed to work for a little while but would eventually blow cold again.

Flushing the matrix seems only to be a short term fix.

Replacing it is the only sure fix :)

It's a couple of days work (maybe three depending on patience) with a lot of cursing (swear box at the ready), but when it's done, you can sit back and think to yourself...."yea..I've just saved myself about £700, & I've done it properly". ;D

You can bet your life that FMD wouldn't do such a good & proper job. ;)

Thanks for the advice. I keep thinking, maybe I might be lucky and get away with flushing. Removing the dash seems a bit drastic and a bit daunting to say the least ( where do you start), and the thought of trying to get it out from underneath. I fear i'm bound to break something else fumbling around trying to losen it. Is their any printed procedure for either of these methods?

Thanks for that simmo, mines the 24v with climate control its pointed me in the right direction. looking at the info its says remove the left hand plenum section on 24V, that puts me off, it will probably never run right again! looks like a whole can of worms!

Update on the heater, I have flushed the heater matrix with 2 bottles of mr muscle drain cleaner! left the first bottle in 2 hours then flushed, second bottle overnight then flushed. I have had a problem with airlocks as it went cold. a few miles later got warm, then got a low coolant light.
Turns out when I flushed, I had not tightened one of the matrix hoses, tightened it up, put the car up on ramps and filled with water with the engine running until the low coolant light went out. Been out in the car several times today........in the warm!

so fingers crossed it may have just been an airlock or that mr muscle stuff is really good!
will keep you all posted. :)
