Title: still got problems Post by cscars1 on Nov 18th, 2006, 10:19pm hello io have a 96 scorpio 2.0 16v i asked on here about my car surging when driving so far i have changed the fuel filters changed the plugs rewired the ford's clever idea of running the loom over the engine after it melted but still when i am driving the car feels like it is missing a little , as i say i have renewed the parts that would cause this but to no avail the leads seem ok and the two coil packs seem ok problem in detail the car starts up ok runs ok but sometimes the car seems to have a misfire or holds back when driving , under power , its ok but if you ease off or sit at a constant speed the car seems like it missing a beat does not do this al the time though which makes it more strange car does feel sluggish and not responcive as i think it should iany suggestions will be great |

Title: Re: still got problems Post by Dave on Nov 18th, 2006, 10:45pm Not familiar with the 2.0 but a possible air leak springs to ming. You could also try disconnecting the EGR valve too - disconnect and block the pipe that goes to the silver box on the bulkhead (on the 24v at least) to test if the fault disappears: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/egr.htm |

Makes one wonder about the fate suffered by the right one :o ;D Wiring fault springs to mind, hesitation under speed would point a finger at a faulty coilpack as jonnycab said. My 2.3 feels like that though, sometimes it feels like it couldn't overtake a milk float, other times it flies along like it's got 250bhp. I'll check the EGR on mine too, sounds like a good idea. Regards, Bruce. |

Title: Re: still got problems Post by cscars1 on Nov 19th, 2006, 8:40pm hello i checked all the air pipes and they are not split or leeking i will take the egr valve apart tomorrow and check for any problems i will block the pipe off and see if thats the problem as for coil packs , i dont think it is them as the car runs ok when parked ,only under load , cruising speed fine under 30 ish and normally plays up at about 50 + |

Title: Re: still got problems Post by jonnycab on Nov 20th, 2006, 12:30am I had exactly the same symptoms on my old 2.0 16V Scorp. It ticked over fine, even revved okay. But under load it would 'hiccup'. It felt like fuel starvation, but it was the coil packs. Just because the coil packs look okay, it doesn't mean they are okay ;) .......still bet my left nut on it ;D |

You may have a problem getting the EGR valve apart....as it is a sealed unit. You can check for tightness to the exhaust manifold, & tightness of pipes....especially the brass ring between manifold pipe & EGR. But I doubt if the EGR is the problem, & it could well be waste of time :) |

Title: Re: still got problems Post by hellblue on Nov 20th, 2006, 10:48pm I had this, try removing the egr valve to clean it & the seat (carb cleaner) opperate by hand then make sure it then seats ok. But it may be the pressure transducer so if you still have trouble try pluging the vacuum pipe to the egr valve,it wont hurt if the egr is not working, you can spend ££££ on parts to find a fault like this, only to find out it may have been a cheap fix |

Title: Re: still got problems Post by cscars1 on Nov 20th, 2006, 11:33pm hi i have tested the egr valve today by putting a vacumn pump on the egr valve and you can feel it moving up ok , when releasing the pressure it goes back down so i think thats ok its seems to be getting a little better taking it to manchester tommorrow for a long run so that should clean it or blow it up |

hi i just been to manchester and the car ran ok , it only had the flat spot at about 2000 revs upto 3000 revs after that it was ok on the way back i disconected the pipe from EGR valve and the car ran 99% better than before so i think it is the EGR valve ] if i leave the EGR valve disconnected what problems will i get |

Title: Re: still got problems Post by hellblue on Nov 23rd, 2006, 10:15pm None realy mines not been on since i had the trouble. The egr only lets exhaust gas in when at light loads & cruising to lower combustion temps to lower nox levels thus saving the planet!! (a bit) so its not on all the time any way ,if the valve dont close properly you will loose power as the exhast gas is inert so you will have less fuel/air to burn so less bang ~ less go!! |

Title: Re: still got problems Post by Geoff_W on Nov 23rd, 2006, 10:50pm In my case it was the lead from the coil pack to the plug, cable insulation was cracked where it plugged on the pack. New lead sorted it, not going to bet a testicle however unless its Jonnys ;) |
