Title: Tailgate Warning Light Post by ColinE on Nov 21st, 2006, 1:07pm Hi I am new to the site bought a Scorpio Ultima 2 litre 1995 last week, working round the minor faults. I have the tail gate warning light on all the time, is this a dodge switch in the lock, how do I get at it, just remove the screws? Thanks. |

Title: Re: Tailgate Warning Light Post by TiberiuS on Nov 21st, 2006, 2:27pm Dodgy switch mate, if the alarm starts going off at random you know what's causing it ;) A good squirt of WD40 into the mech normally frees it up but if that doesn't work it'll be time to remove the trim and give the lock a once over. Try the WD40 first, may cure it. Regards, Bruce. |

Title: Re: Tailgate Warning Light Post by Simmo on Nov 21st, 2006, 2:33pm First of all try putting pressure on the tailgate when it is shut to see if the light goes out. May be just adjusment on the 'pin' on the sill required to tighten the closure. Secondly spray the lock barrel and catch with WD40 and see if that cures it. To access the actual lock you need to remove the trim panel by taking out the screws around the outer edge and ALSO the fixings which sit inside the two 'grip' handles in the tailgate. The 'handles' are undone by turning the plastic catch allowing the 'hatch' to swing down and then you can see the two plastic plugs inside each compartment securing the trim to the door skin. |

Title: Re: Tailgate Warning Light Post by ColinE on Nov 22nd, 2006, 2:18pm Hi I had a look this afternoon, but it started raining so had to stop, I got the rear window surround off, took the screws out of the trim panel, but could not seem to get this off, did not want to force it, is the switch mechanical or proximity, the latch lever is floppy, should there be a spring or some thing to hold it, the tail gate unlocks ok with the key, |

Title: Re: Tailgate Warning Light Post by Simmo on Nov 22nd, 2006, 2:38pm Have you released the fixings I mentioned in the grip handles in the tailgate?. The latching mechanism is sprung loaded so it sounds as if it is u/s and thus not securing the tailgate properly hence the warning light. |

Title: Re: Tailgate Warning Light Post by ColinE on Nov 22nd, 2006, 8:32pm yes I think I have them, the trim will slide each way but seemed to be held with the grab handles, as I said I had to leave due to the weather, if I get the trim panel off can I then get at the switch, or must the lock come off the door, Thanks. |
