Title: Autobox and iddle Post by Octavian_P on Nov 22nd, 2006, 7:30am Hello Well i have encounterd the first cossie problem ;D I have noticed that when i stop at the trafic lights....sometimes the engine would seem it's about to stall for a few moments, then it's back to normal. Another thing i have noticed, is that when i select reverse, it engages whith a slight thump. I have checked the oil (which was changed along with the filter about 20.000 km ago), it's not verry reddish but it smels mineral, no burnt stuff. Beside this it changes wonderful and no OD flashing. MAF is also clean The bad thing was that today when i selected reverse the engine stalled.... :P With what sould i start ? IACV ?? Cheers |

Title: Re: Autobox and iddle Post by cossieguy on Nov 22nd, 2006, 7:38am Had similar problem about 2 months ago cossie would stall when reversing and wouldn't start stright away. Had to take keys out of ignition and put them back in then car would start ??? Cleaned MAf and iacv and (Touch wood) hasn't happened since. So if your MAf is clean would suggest that you try IACV. Other idling problems developed some weeks later so changed IACV for brand new one and (Bang head against wood) idle is lovely. Good luck Guy. |

Title: Re: Autobox and iddle Post by TiberiuS on Nov 22nd, 2006, 1:43pm I'm not an autobox expert (wish I was ::)) but I've driven a few cars with bad boxes and in my experience the faults manifest on both forward and reverse when the box is wearing out with age. Stalling is a driving concern though, are you sure it's gearbox related and not something on the engine causing it? Another fluid change+filter couldn't hurt it, especially if the car has been standing for some time, way cheaper than hauling the autobox out :) Regards, Bruce :) |

Title: Re: Autobox and iddle Post by Dave2302 on Nov 22nd, 2006, 6:20pm Hi, I doubt this is transmission related. ;) It sounds like an idle concern, maybe IACV, dodgy EGR, Vac Pipe Split, Air Leak etc etc. Get it to idle silky smooth before worrying about the gearbox. They often give a slight thump in reverse but go on for years. ;D Regards, |

Title: Re: Autobox and iddle Post by Dave on Nov 22nd, 2006, 10:52pm Might be worth giving the throttle body a clean with the old magic can too :) Helped my car no end ;) |

Title: Re: Autobox and iddle Post by Simmo on Nov 23rd, 2006, 7:51am Re the idle problem. I had exactly those symptoms and cleaned the IACV a number of times and replaced it with one from a car which was running ok but the fault continued. Eventually bought a new one .....cured!. |

Title: Re: Autobox and iddle Post by clarkster on Nov 26th, 2006, 1:58pm My 24v is doing a sort of lumpy chug when you hold it on the brakes in drive, sounds very similar to this problem. Some times it doesnt like to reverse uphill either. Im almost certain its engine related rather than gear box. Im thinking along the lines of a faulty HO2 sensor or fuel pressure regulator? Let me know how you get on, it will be interesting to see if is the same fault! |

Title: Re: Autobox and iddle Post by Octavian_P on Dec 6th, 2006, 12:39am Hmm, today i took the cossie for a little ride, when i was starting to enjoy the smooth iddle it did it again, brrrbp...brrrpb....very eradic iddle. This time it happend that the car was out of gear, in N, so the autobox is fine (one possible problem sorted), now all i have to figure is what is happening to it. Porbably i'll take the butterfly's out but looks that a lot of dismanteling has to be done to the intake mainfolds. Also i do not have a garage and the wheater is a bit to cold to wiggle it around. |
