Hi, firstly what a cracking site, I didnt relalise there was such an avid following for the scorpios and was shocked and surprised to find such a dedicated site! Nice one

Here's my problem, some oath decided to pull the passengers side sun visor out the roof of my beloved scorp the other day. I wasnt best pleased, and less so now, as this has led to a whole host of problems.
I have lost power to all interior lights, windscreen heaterS, intermittent wipers and the buzzer to say shes not in park when one would normally open the door stays on when doors are shut (fairly frustrating)
I have connected the wires back up to the visor (they power the vanity mirror) and checked for any obvious wire damage but i still cant get anything. I understand that all the other things are wired into the same circuit, but was wondering if anyone else has had this problem (unlikely) and whats the best way to sort it out? Are there any particular fuses to check? I checked both fuse boxes but nothing obvious there.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Cars on a N plate and is a 12V 2.9 AUTO

Sorry to hear of your trouble, as most of the things you mentioned are timed things try looking here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faultfinds.htm) 2/3 of way down diagnostic trees.
Look at electrical faults especially the self diagnostic test you can do on the timer control module (Holding rear heated screen button down for 10 secs etc).

Check the drivers side fuse box i dont recall which fuse i had blow but it led to most of what you have said

Hello Chris, welcome aboard mate ;)

Off the top of my head it sounds like you've lost power to the timer module. The best way to check all fuses is with a multimeter, you should get a fraction of an ohm accross all fuses which are intact, if you don't have one you'll need to pull and check them one by one ;)

I'm thinking fuses:

16,17 and 24 in the main fusebox and fuse 36 in the battery side fusebox. A diagram of the fuseboxes is here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/temp.htm).

I'm not 100% certain what fuses feed what but these are a good place to start ;)

Interior lights are Fuse 24,Relay no 2 is intermittent screen wiping. In the battery side fusebox (auxillary) Fuses 38 and 41 cover the heated front screen.

hi guys, thanks for all your advice, i will check the things you mention next chance of some daylight. What would happen if i took the sun visor out of the equation (ie the ripping it out of the roof time made all of the above start) by joining the black wire with the orangey yellow one? My basic instinct would suggest blacks earth and orange/yellow live, but havent a clue when it comes to the complex wiring on the scorpio.

DON'T join the wires together, this will cause a hard short circuit :D, keep the orange wire well away from the black one or any metal parts of the body.

Leave everything alone until you've checked fuses ;)

the worst thing you can have is a fault which disappears before you can pinpoint it, if you find a blown fuse in that circuit then you can start tracing for shorts.

If it keeps blowing new fuses, don't keep on putting new ones in, come back on here and me or somebody else will be able to help you more ;)

As Bruce suggests do not join the two wires it will blow the fuse if it has not done so yet.

A good method to avoid repeatedly blowing fuses whilst dealing with a problem like this, is to solder a suitable wattage lamp across the pins of an already blown fuse. An headlamp bulb will only light up fully with a dead short or if the circuit tries to draw much more than 55w.

Many Thanks to those of you who suggested checking AUX fuse no 36 that was the chappie, thought he was good on first inspection but changed it anyway and hey presto. Seems the orange wire must have shorted on the car roof when it got detached from the vanity mirror and blew that fuse - which led to the load of over problems. Needless to say I'm very happy to have all the interior electrics working again and i can't thank you enough. Seems the people on here know the car more inside out than Ford do themselves....enough said Vospers Ford!!

If I had a quid for every time that old fuse 36 had been the root of the problems, well, erm.... I'd have a tenner almost ::)

Anyway, what I mean is, its a fairly common failure in the fusebox area.
