Title: door locks Post by armatec on Dec 6th, 2006, 1:34pm hi all.. just picked my new scorp up P reg, 2.3 ultima estate.. nice condition for the year, my only concern is the locks.. (which i knew about before i brought it but not sure what to do) the drivers door lock, well it looks like someone made a determined effort to get into it... the barrel looks like its all gone.. but put the key in and with a bit of jiggeling it will lock and unlock.. the passenger door will lock but not unlock (but this does not seem to have been tampered with) the boot will not unlock at all with the keys... but there is a cable tie sticking out (inside the boot) from the top and if you pull on it it will unlock the boot. both keys fit the ignition which works fine,, i would like the one key to fit everything .. whats the best way to get all this fixed? many thanks kev |

Title: Re: door locks Post by armatec on Dec 6th, 2006, 2:04pm can you just get the locks for the doors and have them programed to the same as the ignition do you know? or is it a whole new set? |

Title: Re: door locks Post by Highlander on Dec 6th, 2006, 2:19pm Door locks dont need programmed, you just rebuild the barrels to fit your key http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/doorlockbld.htm http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/doorlockrep.htm |

Title: Re: door locks Post by harry.m1byt on Dec 6th, 2006, 3:38pm If you meant the cetral locking doesn't work from the passenger side, this is most often due to the contacts on the door switch. So far as the locks themselves are concerned and as someone else pointed out, Ford sell a build it yourself kit -which enables you to build a lock to suite your existing key. |

Title: Re: door locks Post by Highlander on Dec 6th, 2006, 4:13pm I think he meant the passenger door wont lock at all, common fault due to the lock siezing because of the key hardly ever being used in this door. Happens on the drivers door too with the people who use their remote all the time then find out the locks siezed when the batteries run out in Asda car park :) |

Title: Re: door locks Post by johndyork on Dec 6th, 2006, 8:27pm From sound of it I would be tempted to buy a full lock set, which includes two keys, for about £72 and get back to factory fit - the keys are easy to program yourself. Other prices: Individual door barrel £27 - build to your own key Ignition barrel kit £12- build to your own key Don't know about tailgate/boot The ignition barrel is very easy to change - see instructions on site. Door locks a little more fiddly to change but instructions on site also. Do job in stages - ignition & driver door first. Cheers, johndyork |

Title: Re: door locks Post by armatec on Dec 6th, 2006, 8:30pm thanks for the replies guys.. unfortunatly the locks on my other car are also bad.. not as bad as these, (i just cant get the drivers door to open on the old car).. but then again id only have to buy one new barrel for the new car if i did use these? although just the thought of changing the locks and ignition puts me off lol |

Title: Re: door locks Post by Highlander on Dec 6th, 2006, 9:10pm Why change the ignition barrel if its working?? Get a new drivers lock kit and dismantle and clean the other two. or if you have the patience for it, a can of WD40 and a lot of wiggling will free the seized locks up ive done it a few times, longest one took a whole hour of pushing, pulling and wiggling but once it starts to free up its easy going :) |

Title: Re: door locks Post by armatec on Dec 7th, 2006, 11:11am hi there, me again :) this is what i propose i do unless anyone can see any problems? im thinking of buying (off someone on here) a full set of locks and ignition and just changing the entire lot... ignition, both door locks and tailgate. on driveing the car last night i noticed most of the dash pannel bulbs seem to have gone ..i think you have to take all the steering wheel, cowling etc off to change these bulbs so while ive got it all off , this would be a good opertunity to change the ignition... would i have any problems with any computer things recognising the new ignition or would it just be a straight swap? anyone know any links where it will tell me about changing the ignition , instrument bulbs, and changing the door locks? again many thanks in advance kev |

Title: Re: door locks Post by Highlander on Dec 7th, 2006, 11:39am Hi, you dont need to remove the steering wheel, only the dash. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/dashremove.htm The PATS system is going to be a problem if you change the keys/ignition I think as there is an electronic linkup between the key and this system. ie. you can get a key cut identical to yours which will open and lock the doors but it wont start the engine I know you can get it reprogrammed by Ford (£££) or maybe you could use the part of your old key containing the electronic gubbins?? I've had a couple of keys where the metal part has come away from the black base so I did wonder once if I changed a lockset if I would be able to use the "new" metal key parts glued back into the original black key bases so the PATS would still be reading the same key?? Not 100% sure on this though, wait for a proper car thief to come along ;) |

Title: Re: door locks Post by Simmo on Dec 7th, 2006, 2:29pm Stuart, I think your 'system' would work in theory because it's the 'chip' in the black portion of the key which holds the programme. If you purchase a new key you need the 'red' key in order to start the programming sequence before inserting the 'new' key. If you have a look at the ignition lock there is a plastic ring around the end of the lock with a connection to the loom. I'm sure this is your 'link' but no doubt one of our electrical wizards will confirm or otherwise. ;) Mike |

Title: Re: door locks Post by Highlander on Dec 7th, 2006, 5:47pm Hi Mike, yep thats what I reckon, as long as the chip in the key base and the bit on the steering column stay the same then changing the actual lock barrels and keys should not present a problem |
||||
|
Title: Re: door locks Post by Kjetil S on Dec 7th, 2006, 9:12pm Hmm.. Sure the chip id isn't stored in the PATS module, and the bit on the steering column is just a "reader"? |

Title: Re: door locks Post by Simmo on Dec 7th, 2006, 9:22pm If you read This (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/pats.htm) I think you will agree with Highlander and myself. ;) |

Title: Re: door locks Post by johndyork on Dec 7th, 2006, 10:08pm Given you have two good keys and ignition OK - while key kit is £72 (I think you may get a red key with this - would need to check) you may have an extra charge on top for Ford to programme ignition key as existing red would not fit new barrel - may be cheapest option to buy two door locks at £27 and a rear door lock (not sure of cost) and build the locks to match existing keys - easily done from instructions on site, starting with driver door. Cheers, John. |

Actually, It says the same as I say ;) Quote:
I still interpret that as the PATS system holds the key id and just uses the transceiver to read the key id. In which case the "new" red key will need to be programmed to the PATS (possibly by an FMD) |

Title: Re: door locks Post by Highlander on Dec 7th, 2006, 11:04pm Yep, but the key ID is in the black plastic base in a little electronic wotsit, where the red bit is. I think you are saying the same as us but differently :) |
