Title: Re: gearbox has died Post by wickedteen on Jan 17th, 2007, 10:24pm so far i have replaced the MAF and the VSS, cos they said they were faulty, but this turned out to be total crap, they also said that everytime my car arrived the MAF was disconnected. some one just sent me a message that there scorpio is booked in tomorrow at ACC, WHAT EVER YOU DO DONT DO IT, THE BEST PLACE I HAVE FOUND SO FAR IS HERT AND BEDS GEARBOXES in luton, they take your gearbox out and modify it so it will last at least 1/2million miles, they have done extensive research on these as they were the ones that ford got to see what was going on. |

Title: Re: gearbox has died Post by TiberiuS on Jan 19th, 2007, 10:59pm By the way it sounds the autobox recon is just inferior in general. If it was my car I'd be too uneasy to use it...you pay them for work and they have a legal obligation to carry out that work to a high standard. Easy for me to say but you should get it out of there and take it to a proper specialist, one above board enough to write a statement citing the faults found with the 'box and then go back to them armed with a wad of papers and legal backup asking for your money. A garage (friend) of ours did this once after another garage tried to sting a woman for a new wiring loom on her VW Golf, all because she had a bad earth on the brakelight circuit >:( Also, I'd get the car out of there pronto, it wouldn't be the first time a bonehead mechanic has damaged something out of malice. Best of luck with it :). Regards, Bruce. |

Title: Re: gearbox has died Post by wickedteen on Jan 24th, 2007, 9:20am hmmmmmmmmmm well i got a call this morning to say that the car is fine!!!!!!!! he said that the problem was the gear selector switch, there such a thing, can someone please explain this a little bit more as i cannot see how a gear selector switch would make the gear slip at about 100mph to 120mph, but i shall take it for a swift run down the A1 between junction 9 and junction 10, if anyone fancies a quick run thats where i shall be about 11am, cheers all |

Title: Re: gearbox has died Post by scorpio_man on Jan 24th, 2007, 11:57am hi there yes, there is a gear slector switch (called tr or pringle). you say 'gear slip' at really high speed {} ;), are you saying slips out of gear? ie no drive at all? if so, then yes the tr switch could be to blame as i can fool the ecu into thinking it's in neutral, etc. this is the bit you need to make sure it's in park for the manual conversion. hth |

Title: Re: gearbox has died Post by wickedteen on Jan 24th, 2007, 1:21pm it was still accelerating but you could feel it slipping and see the revs going up |

Title: Re: gearbox has died Post by TRACEYS_LIMO on Jan 24th, 2007, 9:29pm the answer is to take it elsewere and tell them what problems you have had and ask them to road test the car, do not leave it to long ;) |

Title: Re: gearbox has died Post by wickedteen on Jan 29th, 2007, 9:59pm well my car went back in today for the slipping, they drove into the garage and i got a nail in the tyre which they wont replace, so im £65 out of pocket straight away, then they adjusted the bands by turning a bolt on the side of the gearbox, i took it away got my tyre fixed, then all of a sudden it raced from 300 revs to 500 revs whilst changing from 2nd into 3rd and you know what its going back tomorrow morning for them to have another look at it............. |

Title: Re: gearbox has died Post by wickedteen on Jan 30th, 2007, 3:31pm today i can say that the gearbox is fixed, all it was was a spring which was to strong and pushing to hard, but it did take them a while, cheers all for your input |

Title: Re: gearbox has died Post by TiberiuS on Jan 30th, 2007, 8:41pm Similar to my weak spring in the clutch stack which gave me the occasional downshift/reverse thump. Ford wanted to haul the box out again but I ran scared from that after the electrical/loom problems I had after the first time around. Was told it wasn't a major problem and it ran fine until I sold it but I never had the same confidence in the Scorp after that episode. Glad you finally got it sorted though, hope it behaves for you :) Regards, Bruce. |
