Title: Interior fan varies speed 2.3 1998 ultima Post by NickP2130 on Mar 7th, 2007, 11:35pm The heater fan sounds like it stops for a few seconds when I stop at traffic light or junctions. This is with the AC off, the fan control switch turned anywhere in the normal fan range. Vents turned to screen or screen /footwell. Is this normal? Also there is always air coming out of centre vents unless I close them, again is this normal? Heater controls work fine for hot or cold air just this funny blower speed thing I know for a fact that the A/C needs recharging and as the clutch doesn't seem to engage is probably defective as well. |

Title: Re: Interior fan varies speed 2.3 1998 ultima Post by jonnycab on Mar 8th, 2007, 12:59am The clutch may not be defective. It has a pressure switch which stops it from engaging if there is insufficient pressure. If you can turn the clutch by hand & it turns easily & smoothly, then it's probably okay :) |

Title: Re: Interior fan varies speed 2.3 1998 ultima Post by martin_rowe on Mar 8th, 2007, 8:55am fan speed variance usually caused by the HBC (heater blower control) later vehicles had a modified unit with bigger heat sink. |

Title: Re: Interior fan varies speed 2.3 1998 ultima Post by Simmo on Mar 8th, 2007, 11:01am If you have Climate control there is a speed sensor mentioned. Here (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/aircon.htm). Could that be a factor as you say it seems to occur when you stop at junctions. |

Title: Re: Interior fan varies speed 2.3 1998 ultima Post by NickP2130 on Mar 8th, 2007, 6:57pm Tried the climate control reset as shown in the scorpio site all has gone well, fans now behave as instructed or seem to for the moment. One question : when resetting, the display came up with two choices on the passenger display 50 and 57, instructions were to select 50 so this is what I did, Anyone know what would happen if I had chosen 57? I was too chicken to try it just in case it all went wrong. |

Title: Re: Interior fan varies speed 2.3 1998 ultima Post by dogma on Mar 8th, 2007, 7:02pm Hi mate, im not as good as the rest of the guys on here but I also have hot air coming out of the top vents no matter what vents are selected, my dad has the same model ans his does the same, to be honest all of my cars have done the same. If the blower slows down it could be because the faster you go the more power is going through, and the slower you go, well it runs slower lol. Sorry if i sound a prat, hope its helped in not a little jim :-/ |

Title: Re: Interior fan varies speed 2.3 1998 ultima Post by NickP2130 on Mar 8th, 2007, 8:44pm Yes well the reprogram/reset seems to have fixed the fan speeds. It used to stop and then after a few seconds come on boost. Now it speeds up as I turn the dial and slow down as I turn it back. Can't beat technology eh?? Next job is gonna be checking the A/C. System must be empty cause it hasn't been recharged since the replacement engine was fitted. I am a bit worried about ending up with a big bill cause of leaks etc. The car has done 164k, the engine 84k and the gearbox 32k miles. |

Title: Re: Interior fan varies speed 2.3 1998 ultima Post by NickP2130 on Mar 9th, 2007, 6:43pm Nope still has a mind of it's own, sppeds up and slows down when it wants? Maybe its normal for CC, perhaps its just trying to keeping the temp constant. If you set the fan at a speed within the right hand range does the speed stay constant (98 2.3 ultima with CC) ??? |

Title: Re: Interior fan varies speed 2.3 1998 ultima Post by scorpio_man on Mar 9th, 2007, 7:07pm hi there code 57 is a hbc fault. resetting it helps for a bit, but the only cure is replacement, new @ over £100 or s/h. hth |

Title: Re: Interior fan varies speed 2.3 1998 ultima Post by NickP2130 on Mar 9th, 2007, 8:30pm OK great, now we're getting somewhere. My 98 should have the bigger HBC in already, so it sounds like its just disfunctional Might check the wiring as well, seeing as I keep getting random warning lights. sometimes the TC sometimes the ABS, lately the SRS 4 flashes (seatbelt charge). Everytime I jack the car up another random fault light. Still for now I will concentrate on the blower speed. Doesn't bother me too much as it always clears the screen. ;D |

Mine does the speeding up and slowing down, but only in the Auto setting (Climate Control). I believe this is how it is supposed to work, adjusting its speed to maintain the correct sensed cabin temperature. |
