Title: Re: Cracked Windscreen Post by Baz on Mar 8th, 2007, 8:49pm If the screen is heated you will be running into the 300-400 quid mark however most insurance policies cover glass and usually with no impact on no claims discount. Just have to pay the first £25 or £50 The screen will only fail an MOT test if it is in the drivers line of vision or could become an iminent danger. The screens are bonded to the car and as such form part of the overall structure and strength of the car and is best fitted by a specialist Baz |

Title: Re: Cracked Windscreen Post by dogma on Mar 8th, 2007, 8:53pm [] [] [] We both have the same problem mate, i was a bit crafty when i took out my insurance and got windscreen cover too, as baz said they are a lot of money, you can get a non heated one which is cheaper but for what its worth. I think mine will cost about 70 excess as im only 3rd party,f/t. jim |

Title: Re: Cracked Windscreen Post by fallendark on Mar 8th, 2007, 9:03pm the crack itself comes down the middle of the screen and stops short of the bottom of the rear view mirror, just out of the drivers side vision? so im not sure really! the car was way too good to turn down i though, although looking at it now i was a little hasty! Im only 3pty insurance so i dont know about glass cover i will have to check but i diditn think of that idea :) |

Title: Re: Cracked Windscreen Post by dogma on Mar 8th, 2007, 9:10pm Worth a try, as baz said it plays a big part in the cars strength. I know its crafty but try and see if you can add windscreen cover. Ill probably get in trouble for saying it but its worth a go, they wont say no as its more money for them, i think mine was something like an extra 20 pound, so really the hundred you saved you will spend but a lot cheaper than 400 mate jim |

Title: Re: Cracked Windscreen Post by TiberiuS on Mar 8th, 2007, 9:16pm Dark, careful with the type of crack you have. A 'bullseye' isn't a problem as long as it's out of the driver's vision but a crack coming from an edge will gradually spread across until the screen cracks...happened to me a couple of years back, I saw this tiny crack up the corner creep across until it took out the lower drivers side of the screen... Get it done now and stop worrying about it :). Regards, Bruce. |

Dogma thanks for the idea! i shall investigate it!! i read somwhere you were an essex resident? makes two of us i hoep to see you around! |

Title: Re: Cracked Windscreen Post by dogma on Mar 8th, 2007, 9:38pm Oh one more thing mate, what ever you do try not to switch the heated elements on or the screen demister blower, any change in temp can cause it so go completely, you probably already know this but just in case lol, good luck and hope you sort it out. And yes i live in thurrock, give me a wave if you see me lol P468, saloon in a dark purple jim 8) |

Title: Re: Cracked Windscreen Post by martin_rowe on Mar 9th, 2007, 8:42am basically, if there is damage exceeding 40mm in the sweep of the wipers (zone b) then it fails, if there is damage in excess of 10mm in an area 300mm wide central to the steering wheel and in the sweep of the wipers then it fails also. |
