Title: DOHC loom cracking, repair? Post by dannynic on Mar 17th, 2007, 5:50pm Just done a service on my 2.3 scorpio today and noticed the fuel cut off loom has just started cracking just like it says on the main site. :'( I had this problem with my old scorpio but it was alot worse and I replaced the whole loom because it was cracked everywhere, however my new scorpio only has some slight cracking under the spark plug cover, and I don't really want to pay out £100 if I can repair it especially just for a little bit of wire. Just wondered if anyone else has repaired the loom and how successful it was? ;) |

Title: Re: DOHC loom cracking, repair? Post by Simmo on Mar 17th, 2007, 9:46pm I had a similar problem on my 2.ltr and replaced the defective wiring without too much difficulty. The main thing is to try and re-use the connectors by saving the wiring close to the connector if possible as new connectors are unavailable. Even those which appear the same are NOT. Use heatshrink to protect the join and of course solder each connection. |

Title: Re: DOHC loom cracking, repair? Post by Octavian_P on Mar 18th, 2007, 7:52am My 2.3 loom is almost falling apart. With the aid of Stuart i'll get it fixed ;) PS: when i'll do the loom on mine i'll have the burnt one "as a spare". I'll try to dismantle it and completely refurbish it. If i'll manage i'll do a complete article and a how to. |

Title: Re: DOHC loom cracking, repair? Post by dannynic on Mar 18th, 2007, 1:43pm I think that would be a good idea as nearly every 4cyl scorpio I've seen has this problem. :) |

Title: Re: DOHC loom cracking, repair? Post by TiberiuS on Mar 18th, 2007, 1:53pm Me and Simmo were discussing this a while back, I refurbished that part on mine. You'll likely find the connectors are brittle through age and heat, several other (newer) cars use the same connector including Mondeos...in plentiful supply in scrappies ;) The connectors do come apart but are normally so brittle that they fall to bits if you try. I snipped the wires on the connectors about 1/2" from each plug, cleaned them with a glassfibre pen and soldered new silicone cable onto it. Then a couple of layers of self adhesive heat shrink followed by some heat resistant jute loom covering...I think the pictures I took are still in the old thread from September or October :) Hoping to have another project car coming up soon, may have a go then at making an entire new loom... Regards, Bruce. |
