Title: Cossie 24v Sunroof Motor Problems Post by gerryw on Mar 26th, 2007, 12:34pm Hi everybody :-), I have just joined this happy band of Scorpio owners and its good to be in a place where one can discuss with others whatever knowledge we have to help other Scorpio owners. I'm hoping to get some info on my problematic sunroof motor. A month or 2 back the 'SR' stuck halfway back but it was the motor that was the problem not the 'SR'. I took it out and managed to wind the 'SR' back into the locked position. I tested the motor which was still working but would only wind f/ward-b/ward for a feww turns then stop. I bought a SH motor from Ebay and it worked fine until I had a problem with the plastic coupling which had stripped, so I replaced it with my old plastic coupling which was in good condition but this 'S/H' motor went the way of my old one and would only do a few turns? Can anybody give me a hint as to what is wrong and can it be fixed? Also why can't the plastic coupling be replaced as a new 'SR' motor cost over £300! Hope to hear from you soon as summer is upon us and a 'SR'is a must... Regards Gerryw |

Title: Re: Cossie 24v Sunroof Motor Problems Post by petehull on Mar 26th, 2007, 2:26pm Hi Gerry, welcome, I think there may be a controler module that drives the sun roof although I can't be certain at this point, it is probably the same one that controls the windows, it sounds probable that the motor is ok being that it runs. The nylon drive cog is available from the ford dealers. If you look on the following link you will see the pages about the sun roof workings and the wiring diagrams are also available, somewhere there is a link if you read through some of the older postings. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/electrical/intbasic/MotorSlidingRoof.pdf Try this first and hope it helps. Title: Re: Cossie 24v Sunroof Motor Problems Post by Octavian_P on Mar 26th, 2007, 2:48pm Gerryw Are you sure you have synchronized the motor ? It has 3 positions, fully tilt, middle-closed and full opened. When changing the motor you need to firstly adjust the motor to a position for example middle closed, and the sun roof should be in the same position. This assures that the travel of the motor will be complete. Otherwise you will fin in situations that the sunroof will only open and close for one half or other weird things like braking another nylon gear |

Title: Re: Cossie 24v Sunroof Motor Problems Post by gerryw on Mar 27th, 2007, 4:41am Thanks alot for your replies, it sounds like the setting of the SR motor could well be the problem? Octavian_P can you tell me how to synchronize the motor as I do not want to make the situation any worse. The motor has a black plastic covering over the pcb and when removed it uncovers a white nylon cog that meshes with the nylon drive gear (that fits onto the spindle of the SR) and below this nylon cog is a black plastic rotor type assembly that is lined up with a switch (white) with 3 red switches which line up to the side of this black plastic rotor assembly. Now it seems to me that this is what you are talking about because this must be what controls the 3 positions, fully tilt, middle-closed and full opened, of the SR. Now here is the hard part, does anyone know how to setup this assembly as I have not got a clue! Hope to hear from you with the solution if there is one... Also do I just go into a Ford dealers and ask for a replacement nylon drive gear? p.s. checked the SR and found some corrosion on the linkage (rust) which maybe have caused my SR ploblems (I think I may have to consider replacing the SR (what do you think)? You know, I suddenly seem to have quite a few little niggly problems with my cossie but I think I should try to fix each in turn and not offload the lot in one go. Many thanks and regards to all, Gerryw |

Title: Re: Cossie 24v Sunroof Motor Problems Post by gerryw on Mar 27th, 2007, 10:24am Hi Simmo, Thats a great website, just what I need. I will certainly try to carry out the setup sequences and the maintenance. Do you know if it is possible to buy the Main Nylon Drive Gear and the Nylon Limit Switch Cam Gear from a Ford Dealer because as stated previously a new motor cost £300+ Thanks for your Reply Regards Gerryw |

Title: Re: Cossie 24v Sunroof Motor Problems Post by Simmo on Mar 27th, 2007, 11:53am I'm afraid I can't answer that BUT someone on this site may well have a second-hand replacement motor. Just post on 'Parts wanted' if Ford can't supply the parts. |
