hi i just wanted to check if i had a problem or not when i kickdown in econ it redlines.

Hi mate. Kickdown in either Sport or Economy will make it redline, that's what it's meant to do ::)

It should go right upto 6k on the revs and then drop into the next gear, Sport mode merely changes the shifting patterns at part throttle and makes the shift slightly 'crisper'.

My 2.3 will not redline in economy...with my foot on the floor it will hit a tad over 5000 revs, then change gear. In sport mode it will go just over 6000 before it changes gear :)

Lordy, 6000 rpm ! my old girl's needle's never been above 4000 :-/

.......I don't like to scare my passengers & I like to get paid :)

To be honest...the revs rarely go over 2500 when working....but when on my way home in the early hours on a fast road like the A127, then its interesting to find out the Scorps limitations in different autobox modes ;)

Aye Jonny, so it wasn't one of those fangled new Scud missiles which passed me on the A127 at Horndon then? >:( ;D

I used to be too scared to push the 2.3 too hard, always had visions of the head or manifold breaking in the middle of nowhere and junking the engine :-/ ::)

But, the few times I did push it, it redlined in economy, as has every other auto I've driven...I think it's designed to, Sport mode just changes the shift patterns and makes it change a bit crisper ;)

When you say it Redlines, how far exactly is it going?

I ask because I don't think its supposed to go quite that far. :-/

The Red line is just after the 6grand mark, and I think its meant to change at around 5800 or something.

Its a bit tricky to catch the actual moment, but this was mine during a kickdown moment..... on a rolling road! ;) ;D

I think that this discussion just shows the difference between Cossie owners and Non Cossie owners.
The 24V revs so easily and smoothly that you cant help just letting it rip right up to 6k before gear changing. Especially when overtaking.

The problem is that you end up with a car which is so quiet and so easy to do high speeds in that it feels like you're driving slow even when you're passing everything else on the road (I remember the first night I drove the Scorp thinking the speedo was wrong because it seemed like I was going so slow).

hi there

re the high revs on the 16 valve engine.

mine doesn't mind hitting the high revs! ;) and in 'S', yes the throttle is sharper and yes it holds the gear longer, but i feel that it has more power as well. :-/ i had the car for a year before converting to lpg, but i've always felt this. :-/ the car's normally on lpg most of the time now and was set up on the rolling road, so this could explain the 'extra' performace.

still as i said, i seem to always remember this extra surge in 'S'.

anyone else think this? or is because we don't normally drive it in this manor (just on early sunday mornings!)? ;) ;D

Thats what I get in my 24V during my runs to N Wales, quite happy with that after all the horror stories about cossies

I had a 2.3 before i got this Cossie. I always felt that it was happy to rev too, but not as freely as the cossie, i will admit, but not far off.

Well the trip counter had reset (as had the mpg) and this figure came about after 58 miles of motorway driving.
As Chieftain Bob says, it is do-able. A bit boring though ;D

So after 58 miles of sensible driving, I slowed to 50-something mph and put my foot down again. Whilst doing so, ~~I took~~ my passenger took this snap through the wheel ;)

Mine used to change up at just under 6k, it shouldn't go over this as far as I know unless you hold it in a gear with the selector.

I have floored the cossie a few times. It takes a few moments to throw it's rev counter to 6k, where i usually chicken out and ease the gas a bit. So it does redline in E. On the 2.3 being a manual i hit the rev limiter twice. The revs went to ~6500 where it lost all power and dropped to idle for a few moments.

that's the rev limiter for you. gives you a fright the first time it happens! :o ;D
