I'm looking for inspiration.

My 2.9 12v had starting problems - especially after visiting a car-wash. After looking at this site it sounded like water-ingress into the fuse box(es).

So I removed, rebuilt and re-installed both fuse boxes. There was no sign of water ingress and no sign of corrosion or shorting inside either. The battery cover has always been in place and the drain-holes clear.

The car starts fine now (although I'm not convinced it won't play up again) but now the wipers, the indicators and the headlights do not work.

I've checked all fuses, and all connections underneath the dash. They all seem to plug into the main fuse-box in the same corner but the coonection feels good.

I'm at a loss of where to look next. Could this be a relay issue? (I'm thinking not as multiple applications have failed). Perhaps a bad earth? If so, where?

Any ideas most welcome.

See if the multiplug to the main fusebox is seated properly. Someone once said that if it clicks in properly on the first attempt, you didn't do it right ;D

I must admit that on first inspection it wasn't seated properly - but I've had it out and back-in three or five times now and it hasn't remedied it.

I'll go check it again seeing as you've heard they're a problem.

They can apparently seem to be just fine, even when they're not. I haven't attempted to disconnect the multiplug myself, in fear of not getting it back in place. If you do a search on the forum for 'fuse box multiplug' there should be a description of how to seaten it properly somewhere.

Okay, I did a search now, and the symptoms you describe match perfectly with the 'multiplug not seated' syndrome :D

If the multiplug is just pushed straight on it gives the symptoms you describe...

I had similar problems when I bucket and sponged the car a while ago (didn't have a battery cover at the time), I found that removing and replacing some fuses cured it tho.

Maybe some contact cleaner/WD40 is in order? Might be worth checking the CCM etc behind the glovebox, sometimes water can trickle down there.

It WORKS!!!! It WAS the multiplug. I must admit, I was talking about a different multiplug (underneath the dash) so I rechecked the main plug under the bonnet and sure enough, although it looked OK, I could see that the 2 pins at the back weren't located in the slots.

Cross everything, but my green tank is back on the road.
