Title: flasher unit Post by pat on Apr 2nd, 2007, 7:15pm hi folks. Can someone tell me how to get to the flasher unit please? Can't find any reference to it in help lists or forums. Last time it went, seem to remember seeing that it was on top of column somewhere. Paid garage to do it but doing it myself this time. (well, I AM a pensioner in May!). Does the dash have to come out and if so, how? Difficult to locate it when it's not ticking! P.S. 2.9 Ultima saloon auto. P.P.S. Throttle sensor completely cured gearbox leak into engine for those of you who remember. Very many thanks again and thanks in anticipation for this one. Best regards to all. Pat |

Title: Re: flasher unit Post by Spannerdemon on Apr 3rd, 2007, 8:35am It can be a bit of a cow to get out, due to its proximity to the top of the steering column, and not that easy to see at first glimpse. There's no need to remove the bottom steering wheel cowl at all. Just take the top shroud off. 2 small Phillips screws. Also, if you're on a budget, (and I'm getting towards pension age myself) :D............virtually any flasher unit will fit it so long as the pins are the same but it MUST be the short type. The longer units won't fit under the cover. Your local breakers will probably have loads of them off other cars. Basically it's just a simple 12v Flasher unit, not specific to any vehicle. Most of them are made by firms like Bosch anyway. Picture to help you. Picturehttp://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g25/xtr42gpnd/FlasherUnit.jpg [img][/img] |

Title: Re: flasher unit Post by pat on Apr 3rd, 2007, 11:03am Solarpanel, Snoopy, Spannerdemon. Very many thanks for your prompt help. Just off outside to do it now. It's 'er indoors' car and I can't cope with trying to teach her hand signals(she only knows one). Will report successful completion. |

Title: Re: flasher unit Post by pat on Apr 3rd, 2007, 1:08pm Cheers chaps! I would never have found it there. I had a spare long unit so have swapped it with daughter's Metro. This site is magic. You are all stars. Even if the cars were c--p, it would be worth having one just for the quality of help that's available. Thanks a million, Pat |
