I can no longer open the tailgate on my 95' ultima estate. >:(

I've only ever been able to open it by putting the key in and turning it, but now all of a sudden I cannot open it at all. ???

I've only got one slave key (black with the red dot) i've never had the red master key.

Any ideas?

same here on both counts except that mine does still open(just). It,s going in on Wed for ABS fault(failed MOT) so I'll ask about a master key as well. Pat.

I've got a feeling i'm gonna have to go to FMD and get a master key sorted. from what i've heard it's not cheap. :'(

Worn locks or worn keys, possibly the lock is gunged up with dirt, some WD40 might help it

hi there

re the key for the tailgate. you can get one cut at any keysmiths as it doesn't need to be coded.

does mean you'll need two keys, but......

Thanks guys :)...tried a squirt of WD40, no joy!....will get a second key cut tomorrow and give that a try.
If it's the lock thats broken I presume the only way of changing it is by drilling out the barrel?

hi there

i take you don't have a remote?

you need to cut a smallish 3/4 way round hole in the trim, about 4" or 5" up from the floor. you then reach in and pull on the connecting rods and it should open.

make sure you don't cut all the way round. it'll make it easier to repair later. also, watch for the wiring. :-/

Thanks andrew, you're right I dont have the remote. I'll try cutting into the trim if the new key doesn't open it.

Thanks for the advice....got a second key cut and it now opens the tailgate. ;D
Funny how it opened it one minute and the next it doesnt anymore, but then i guess its got to wear out at some point.

Anyway, all is good now, and at a cost of £5.95 and three visits to key cutters (previous 2 had no blanks) I'm all smiles!! ;D ;D ;D
