Title: Cruise Control not working
Post by jonnycab on Apr 8th, 2007, 10:49pm
Yikes....all of a sudden my cruise control has gone  :(

It was working fine last night, but today on the A12...nothing....not even the green symbol on the dash  ???

I've not had a chance to look into the matter yet (not even a fuse)....but any suggestions as to why it should suddenly stop working overnight will hopefully make for a quick solution  :D

hi jc

sounds like an electrical issue with a  switch.

try hitting the on switch, then set it with + or -. if it works, you'll need to remove the steering wheel (i think), to get at the connections.

next thing is the brake switch.

JC, also check the cable connection to the throttle linkage. It is only a small plastic 'banjo' fitting and can slip off or be dislodged when working around that area. Mines been held in place with a tiny cable tie for years.

...and just to add to the checklist -

Check the actual cruise control module too. Mine was fixed after I found a slight bit of oxidisation on the pins of this. It is the small black box above your right knee as you are driving, just above the kick panel. Unpluging a few times should clear the oxidisation from the pins.

Does your horn work?
If the spiral wound ribbon cable in the steering wheel breaks, the cruise and horn will stop working.
A partial break may stop either.

All fixed & working again...

Scorpio_man wins first prize for suggesting the brake switch....the plunger was stuck in, so I pulled it out & it now works fine again  ;D

Not sure why it got stuck in though ?....it was a second hand one I got last year after I broke the original one when changing the heater matrix (removed brake pedal)........

If it happens again, then I reckon a new switch will be the order of the day  ;)....I wonder how much FMD will want for one of those?  ::)

Thanks for all the theories guys....it makes the job alot easier when you've got a few ideas to go on  ;)
