Title: Failed MOT
Post by proberjohn on Apr 11th, 2007, 6:53pm
Took the Scorp in for an early MOT today ........... failed  :( :(

Couple of brake pipes - no hassle and nearside wishbone bushes on the wishbone which was replaced last June so garage will try to get the new one foc.

One day I'll have a car that won't need buckets of money every year   :'( :'(

Hi Andrew

Yes my local (non franchise) garage fitted the suspension arm last May.  There was a knock (NSF) by December but they couldn't find out from where.

They're a good garage (get a lot of work from me) and I'm sure they'll look kindly on the costs.
The arm came from FMD in Perth so should have a 12 month warranty - the car's only done 3-4k since replacement so it shouldn't have failed - unless they did something silly like tighten the bolts with it still up in the air :o :o

I'll find out tomorrow - I expect the part to be free but pay the labour (perhaps they'll do a deal on here as well).  Upside is they don't charge any retest fees.

Hi all,
If they had a young-on do the job they may have fitted the viod bush on an angle insted of straight up and down. >:(. this would explain the excess movement.

Still waiting ::)

FMD sent the wrong suspension arm so won't get it back this week.

Garage reckons I'll have to pay the full amount and they'll put a claim into Ford which can take months :( :(

Wouldn't mind but many expenses this month and I could do without another £250+ bill :'( :'(

I had a Scorpio once upon a time!!

I've still not got it back.  I peeked in the garage on my way home today and it's still there up on the hoist.  ::)

Perhaps there's a shortage of suspension arms??

Tomorrow???

look at my thread on susp bushes and arms, i had the same prob with arms failing in less than twelve months,,, my dec 98 scorp has had about 5 or 6 arms  fitted since i bought the car with 24,000 mls on it ,,, ford has replaced them no bother at all and my warranty still covers me if any more fail, thats not the point though its bloody inconvenient

Thanks for that Neil - it makes me feel really confident ;)
I'm not sure whether Ford will pick up the labour costs - somehow I doubt it.  Still not got it back and haven't heard from the garage.  I'll pop in tomorrow.

Hi all, proberjohn thats a bit of a bummer.  I didn't realize FORD M/C had sutch a problem. They sould have learnt by the problems they had with Fiesta, Escort & Mondeo bushes to name but a few. If anyone's desperate I've got a pr of front wishbones from an ultima, thats just been stripped. Bushes were checked before they were removed, last wk, by an MOT tester & deamed good.  {bushes/arms look to be recent}. PM my with offers, please.

Got it back this pm  :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

When I called in the garage this am they were still waiting for the correct arm having been sent two right hand side ones in sucession (its the left (nearside) one that's failed).  This despite the fact the the arms have a "L" or a "R" cast into them!!

Suspicion is that they were in the wrong bins somewhere.

I'll have to wait to see how the bill looks (great garage - I get the car back when the job's done and they send me a bill later, it used to be weeks but it's down to days now).

Downside is that there are advisories for the rear shocker bushes - are these the ones that can't be got seperately??  :( :(
