I am having great difficulty in getting my key to turn in the ignition i have to wiggle it about until it works and if the steering lock is on its even worse. Is it due to a worn key or lock. I only have one key for the car ???

I had exactly the same problem with mine, bought a new key but that was just as bad. The problem is with the ignition barrel. You can buy a kit from FMD for about £15 and if you aren't confident in assembling it they will build it for you too for a few extra quid. Replacing the barrel is very simple and all the information you need can be found HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ignitionlock.htm).

The MOST IMPORTANT thing is to do this before the key will not turn to Position 1 as the article says. It has to be in this position to allow the small 'pin' to be depressed from the top and it is this action which releases the barrel from the steering column. Don't delay!!.
