Welcome to the forums.  :)

Did the car overheat when the hose went?
What symptoms exactly are you experiencing. Backfire? Rough Running?

Need to have a much better idea of what's wrong before we can give you a sensible idea of the problem/s. At the moment, it would be guesswork, and wouldn't be much use to you.  :)

Hi. Those symptoms sound almost exactly the same as what Jim (Dogma) was getting, not sure if he's managed to sort them yet.

With the overheating, did you get a new thermostat fitted with the new hose?

Could be wiring damage as a result of the overheating, have you had the HT circuit checked? Are the plugs sparking ok?

On the DOHC and 24v models the speedo is run from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS), not sure if it's the same on the 12v.

Hope this helps some, hopefully someone with more knowledge can help you more :)

Regards, Bruce.

The speedo on the 12v is the same as on ALL the others .. It gets the signal from the VSS.

The poor running could be down to the coil getting wet . The 12v still uses a coil; and distributor .. If the coil or the main HT lead is breaking down then that will result in very poor running. and that could ALL be a result of it getting wet.

Could also be the old problem with water getting into the ECU pins by running down the loom behind the battery. When it happened on MY 12v I had the most awful running as a result.

Certainly worth checking for the time it will take.  ;)

sorry for not getting back sooner computer has bin playing up
yes car did overheat but the main plug was not in so the fans did not come on
have now change the two temp sensors on the front of the engine

the car is running  very rough and feels like its popping from under the passenger side

there is no thermostat in the engine as it was overheating and has stopped  doing at the moment ,

will see the wiring and the coil and ecu and get back to you ,

ps sorry about spelling not good at it

Hi there,

Exactly how much did the engine overheat ???

It is very likely from all that you describe that it may have damaged a head gasket or head. :'(

A simple compression test will reveal whether or not your "flogging a dead horse".  I'd do this before you throw too much money into parts that you dont need. ;)

hi the car got very hot it went in to the red and that's when the hose went bang
the rac did a test when the car did overheat and there was no sine of the head gone have also had i man round and he said that it was not gone i think the hose going saved the head thankfully  but will get a compression test done just in case  ??? ???

when the car gets hot it wont start up again for about 10 Min's i think it is the starter motor and it dos not like to start in the morning

PS dos anyone know where the best place to get a starter motor is

Hi.....

Whoaaaaaaaaa, there you go again, dont just change bits blindly cos there are an awful lot left to change before you eventually get to the right one LOL  ;D

Get a proper diagnosis before keep throwing money at it  ;)  Even if you have to pay a DECENT proffessional an hours labour to come have a look, it'll still be less than the cost of a starter motor which you may not need !!
