Title: steering prob Post by cbj on May 23rd, 2007, 10:10pm Hi all Need a bit of help, When turning left steering wheel at about 1/4 turn steering seems to lock up and can hear a rubbing sound from right hand wheel arch. Have checked tyers and arch for rubbing marks no joy, could it be steering bushes or trackrods. anyone had same problem and knows of a fix. thanks in addvance. r colin |

Title: Re: steering prob Post by Spannerdemon on May 23rd, 2007, 10:23pm Have you checked your power steering fluid level? Have you checked that your wheel nuts are tight, and that the brake caliper isn't loose? Take the wheel off to check this properly. Are your tyre pressures OK? If the steering is locking up, it could well be the steering rack itself. Check the gaiters, if they are full of fluid, then you need to replace the rack. Really need a bit more information once you've checked these things. If it's seriously locking up, then obviously don't drive it until you locate and rectify the cause. ;) |

Title: Re: steering prob Post by tintin on May 28th, 2007, 11:55am when i was having work done in a garage, i mentioned to them that my steering seemed to "catch" a little at about a 1/4 turn. they investigated and found the steering column was catching on a piece of the exhaust shielding. try looking down the drivers side of the engine, you should be able to see the column coming down, and some heat shielding there. they removed and ground the shield and the problem went away. hth, |
