Title: Charging Light and Flat Battery
Post by subski on May 27th, 2007, 10:03am
??? Hi, hope you can help.
About 4 months ago I had a new altinator fitted. All OK except charging light would remain on very dimly, only noticable at night it is so dim. Have checked the charge going into the battery and it reads anything up to 14 volts depending on the revs so I presume the altinator is OK. In the last couple of days the car wont start and I have had to charge the battery up, is the dim red light a connected problem or is my 2 1/2 year old battery naf
:-/

Thanks in advance, Mick

I would say you need a new battery.

The Scorpio needs a heavy duty battery, and if the one you have is losing its charge despite the alternator charging it fully, then it's had it.

Dim red light is probably connected to this, as although the charge is being put out by the alternator, the battery isn't retaining it.

If you have any doubts about your alternator, then make sure you get it tested before your guarantee runs out. But from what you've put here, I am pretty certain it's OK.  ;)

Make sure you get the correct type of battery. As S/D says you need a powerful unit to run the Scorps electrics. Details are HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/battery.htm)
