Title: This & that... Post by Albion on May 29th, 2007, 10:11pm Hi all After having & enjoying Granada's, i'm now into my second Ultima... ;D Both have the same problem with the heater blower.... I'm sure i've read somewhere on here about it being a common fault, but d'ya think i can find it? Whatever position i set it at, it just comes on & off as it feels like.... Is there a solution/cure for this? Also, when moving off in first, i get a whining noise which my other car didn't do. Anything to be concerned about? Drives fine otherwise. It's a 2.3 auto estate (R)..... previous one was a 2.0 auto saloon (P). Both had climate control... First one had the leak from the rear view mirror :( Cheers BiLL |

Title: Re: This & that... Post by catalina on May 29th, 2007, 10:42pm Sounds like a loose or corroded connection in the box situated in the centre of the well under the bonnet, directly in front of the windscreen. There should be a cover on the box to keep the water out. Try this first. It will take just a couple of minutes. Cheers John |

Title: Re: This & that... Post by Dave on May 29th, 2007, 10:45pm My blower has been like that for 2 years. Last week the car was fitted with a new HBC (heater blower control). No further problems 8) Re the whine, how many miles has the car done? Might benefit from a gearbox oil and filter change. Oh, and welcome to the site :D |

Title: Re: This & that... Post by Albion on May 29th, 2007, 10:55pm Thanx for the replies & welcome ;D I'll try those suggestions.... seems odd that both have the fault... oh well.... This car has done 138,500 miles (more than my older car). I hope it's as simple as that ;) Cheers! |

Title: Re: This & that... Post by Snoopy on May 30th, 2007, 8:09am The whine is the gear box oil pump AFAIK and a filter and oil change for the box should cure it. its the filters getting clgged and the pump has to work a little bit harder. Read THIS (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/autogearbox.htm) page , section (D) refers to it. |

Title: Re: This & that... Post by Dave2302 on May 30th, 2007, 3:48pm Hi and welcome :) Normally a whine in first gear only is wear in the Low Gear set, and they can go on for years like it. If it gives a buzzy whine in all gears and neutral / park, then I would say the filter could be blocked, but from what you said about it doing it in first gear I'd reckon it's nothing to worry about. ;) Regards Dave |
