Title: No Throttle!!! TCS???
Post by Scorpius on Jun 5th, 2007, 10:47pm
I am in the process of getting the red Cossie (the one we purchased fron Kev Tulloch) ready for a re-MOT.
I noticed prior to its MOT that sometme the throttle did nothing, but if i pushed it to the floor 5 or 6 or so times, the throttle would suddenly work. (When the throttle didn't work, it just sits at idle).
Having now done the MOT work, i started it again this evening, and now there is no throttle at all. and i can no longer get it to kick in.
I traced the throttle cable to a module under the MAFF sensor. The cable operates before this module, but not after it, although the cable IS NOT broken.
If i remove the cable from the throttle body and pull on it with pliers and then get someone to push down the accelerator, the cable pulls.
The whole thing is acting as if the cable has stretched to the point that it will no longer operate, but i believe that its the Traction control module that is perminantly stopping throttle operation.
I have swapped the sensor on the top of this unit with my green Cossie and it made no difference to either car.
I do not have any ABS or Traction Control warninbg lights come on on the dash so the systen feels that the Traction Conrol is working fine.

Any ideas please.

Ian

Ian, I know b****r all about the TCS but are the multiplugs clean? Maybe the unit that connects to the cable might come apart, maybe there's a dud connection inside...I guess there's a motor in there somewhere...

When you say that you had to stab the pedal a few times to get it to work tells me there's a switch in there with a bad connection that's not registering throttle input :-/

Surely bad ABS sensors would start triggering warning lights?

Lose the TCS and install a normal throttle cable, it's a PITA when it goes wrong and think of the difference in 0-60 through the weight saving ;D ;)

Wild guesses but better than nothing ::)

Regards, Bruce.

Thanks Bruce.

SORTED IT this evening!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
I think i am now the sites expert on the TCS module.
The motor that drives the cam that forces the 2 throttle cable cams together was frozen in the open position.
I worked it with WD40 and a screwdriver on the motor gear and it eased of easily and works fine now.

MOT tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Ian
