Title: Blown head gasket Post by catalina on Jun 16th, 2007, 11:52pm Just blown a head gasket on a cossie. Ford's quote for repair is more than the car is worth----so---- What to do? Is it possible to do as a DIY job? I've done head gaskets on "ordinary" cars. Are there any particular difficulties with this Cosworth engine?. Alternatively does anyone know of someone in the Worcestershire, Hereford, Shropshire area who could tackle this job? Any ideas would be much appreciated. There's a lot of pressure on me to scrap the car but that will hurt a lot. John :( |

Title: Re: Blown head gasket Post by petehull on Jun 17th, 2007, 1:19am :-X :-X Sorry to hear of your misfortune, if it will help I blew my engine up on the M5, it ended up recovered by RAC to Stratford Bridge Garage A38 Ripple Nr Tewksbury Gloustershire GL20 6HF Tel 01684 591 212 They did a good job, They fitted a 2nd hand engine which I supplied, they supplied and fitted a complete clutch kit, Spark Plugs, a New Drive Belt, Oil & Filter, Antifreeze and a new Motorcraft Battery. The labour cost was £480, they did a good job everything worked as it should and I have had no problems with it since. It might be a place worth considering, they will even recover it for you, it's worth a phonecall. Hope this helps Pete ps it's a great feeling when you've been without the car for a while and then when you get it back all is well again..... :D |

Title: Re: Blown head gasket Post by Highlander on Jun 17th, 2007, 1:54am Hi John, if you've done head gaskets before it should be fairly straightforward for you, theres no major problemsi with it. In fact if you source another good engine as Pete says that might prove less expensive. It all depends how much you can do yourself. |
