Title: Loss of electrics
Post by chinton on Jun 19th, 2007, 8:59pm
Just developed this fault. Engine starts fine. After about a mile the electrics cut. Engine still running o.k. but no electric windows, fuel/water temp, speedometer, indicators ect. Only electrics I have is lights and hazzards. Then it could come back only to shortly cut again. Cleaned battery and earth to body terminals to no avail. Also tried the both fuse boxes for loose or coroded fuses but all seems o.k. Sometimes when I key on the ignition there is no power. Try a few times then I have ignition. Had problem for 3 days, be pleased if someone could give me some ideas to try before I call an auto electrician. Thanks in advance. Clive : :-/

have a look in the aux fuse box, the one next to the battery, first off check for any signs on water in there, next, check the tightness of the large fuse held with 2 screws, then check that fuse and the 2 yellow fuses. the elements may have cracked but not blown if you get that i mean? give them a small tap and see if anything moves inside.

Thanks for the reply Matt. The inside of the fuse box looks like new but I will certainly try those fuses tomorrow. Regards. Clive.

Ignition switch could be worth a look, when you lose power you are losing the stuff that works on the ignition, the lights and hazzards would work without it anyway.
