Hi everyone. I am new to Scorpio ownership. Purchased 24v Cosworth 2 weeks ago. Ran quite hot on way home but didnt boil over. Next few days I noticed that the Rad had split around the top hose and I was loosing coolant. Fitted replacement (used) Rad today. Once complete I started car and waited for it to warm up. It hung around mid way on temp gauge for about 10 mins, then it gradually crept up to the red. The fans didn't cut in so I switched it off. Checked relevant fuses and all ok. I am guessing that this is what caused the original rad to split? Any ideas. Could it be the relay, or would a broken stat cause this??

Welcome to the forum,

An easy one to try is the green relay on the o/s inner wing under the h/light I had a faulty one recently....

Had the car a couple of weeks now and still it manages to surprize me. It is the only car I know that can be tucked away for the night with what seems to be a major problem (overheating) Then the next time it is driven it has managed to solve the problem itself! Well thats how it seemed initially. I gave up waiting for the rain to stop and went to check the relay as suggested by petehull. I found it easy enough, but as the light was fading I thought I should not remove it and just gave it a right good wriggle! I then checked the relevant fuses, AGAIN, and took the header tank cap off to check the spring inside, had a quick look at the coolant. I then took a quick trip down to the supermarket. On the way back I thought I would take a short detour onto the dual carriage way to get up to temp. All seemed fine, and the temp stayed bang on centre. When I arrived home and opened the car door I could hear the fan going, so I double checked and sure enough it was. Only one though. Whilst checking this, I noticed that the rad cap was just sitting behind the header tank, so I had obviously forgotten to put it back on again when I checked the coolant!! Took the car out again and gave it a little more aggressive driving and all stayed at the right temp. So there you have it, Have I just solved my problem by accident, and bled out an airlock maybe?? sorry to go on, but a bit excited about it all now. Plus this is the first time I have used sport mode and heard that engine roarrrrrrr. Dont get me wrong, I am no boy racer, 42 married 3 kids. Although I have owned a 5 gt turbo, a 205 1.9 gti, a sierra 4 x 4 cossy and an impreza. But none of them can compare in the sound department. Or comfort... Or safety.... Or equipment..... Or value for money!!!! Night all ;)

Brilliant outcome Dave, sounds like a little WD 40 sortie is in order, the other fan should start up with the aircon switched on and usually when your stopped in traffic etc, an aid to cool the condenser when the Ram-Air effect is lessened.
I need to get mine sorted now. ???

BOTH fans should run - if only one of them is running then there is a fault. Check both fuses for the fans (two 20A) and let us know which fan isn't running (i.e. driver or passenger side).

Hi Darren, Been away, just seen your post. Checked fuses all ok, replaced with new anyway. Still no change. The fan which is running is the passenger side fan. Temp is ok most of the time but when driving up a long gradient it rises. Never to the red but halfway between top and centre. Other faults are appearing now also. Rough idle and occasional difficulty starting. Feels like out of fuel, but it isnt. Just cleaned the MAF tonight. All this has done is made the idle slightly more eratic :'(

Hi. Give the plug to the MAF a wiggle, if it changes the fault you can put some contact cleaner on and some silicone grease to protect it.

Lack of starting could be faulty fuel pressure regulator or relay, could also be crank sensor if it cranks but won't fire.

i have almost the same problem with my Fan nr 2 on my cossy. it never starts. i checked it all i thought. When I had to change my radiator I found out that fan nr 2's wire isn't connected. >:(
I took half the engine down and followed the big Wirestock (is this the right name?) but I can't find any wire that's fit to fan nr two. ??? It's the fan on the same side as the MAF. I also have a 12v 2,9 -96 and checked where the wire should be but It isn't there on the 24v...

Oh it's not just me with cooling problems, mine just appeared over night, none of my fans work replaced the fuses nothing changes, so have ordered the relay via the FMD £43.50 ouch :o

Hi Grumpy? Could you let me know if the relay solves your problem when you get it fitted.
