Title: Cossie Full Exhaust System Repair?
Post by gerryw on Jul 3rd, 2007, 4:03pm
Hi all,

My cossie (97) has a few problems on the exhaust and of course I thought, not a problem, wrong!

The exhaust on my cossie is a full factory fitted system  which to replace will cost approx £1500 'wow'. Could probably buy a cossie from  a scrap dealer and get the exhaust from that...

My question is:

Is there anyway that I can use new exhaust sections i.e. mid, end or front, which are on sale from various spare part dealers at reasonable prices (really) and then maybe cutting out the affected parts of the exhaust and somehow installing the new sections?

Well I have a feeling that I will probably get a negative feedback but my hopes are high you guys/gals will come back with a'fixit' answer!

regards
Gerryw

When the cars are first built on a production line it is easier and cheaper to fit the complete Cat to back exhaust system in one piece, parts manufacturers then make sections to replace the required bits of a system and are usually made with ends that slot in or are slotted into existing systems, therefore all you normally need to do is cut out the affected part (not to short though) and fit the new parts in, they are then clamped up with the relevent sized exhaust clamp.

If you opt for the 2nd hand one you can fit it using 2 or 3 jacks to hold it in place,   {} mind your nut though.... ;D

Go for a powerflow, I would think it would cost about £500 and you would get a bit more power, cant wait for mine to rust as wife wont let me get one till then

A powerflow is stainless and guaranteed for life of the car or as long as you own it and keep up the yearly inspections.

also I've had a quote from an advertiser on this site. one of the underlined ones in blue at the top. they were very reasonable. 300 rings a bell but I aint sure. I do like the stainless option though! you could opt for twin exit at either side of the vehicle.
