Title: Re: ALTERNATORS- Buy new, refurb or breakers? Post by jonnycab on Jul 5th, 2007, 3:24pm I bought a second hand one about six months ago & within two hours of fitting it completely died >:(. Took it back to the breakers the next day & he gave me another one, which has been fine ever since :) It's cheapest to buy second hand, but it's the luck of the draw whether it's a good one or not. Someone on here may have a good one for sale if you put a post in 'Parts Wanted' :) |

Title: Re: ALTERNATORS- Buy new, refurb or breakers? Post by sector-9 on Jul 5th, 2007, 7:24pm A reconditioned one should cost around £60 (or less) and have a 12mth warranty. Go for second hand only if the scrapyard is willing to replace or refund if it's no good. OTOH, diesel alternators cost around £100 for a recon because these have a splined output on the rear for the vacuum pump - which means you can't fit a cheaper one from a petrol engine... Darren |
