Title: ABS FAULT
Post by Dazzer0016 on Jul 6th, 2007, 11:25am
Hi all
I was braking in slow moving traffic when i felt this vibration on the brake pedal and a like a scraping noise(lasted about 5 seconds), the brake pedal seemed to move up a bit and be harder than normal it sounded/ felt like rusty metal binding then the ABS light came on,
its then goes off a couple of days later (i only do about four miles aday)then after a few more days does the same again.....i had new front discs fitted & pads all way round last November but recently (before the ABS problem) i have had brake /steering judder when braking from about 50 mph.
I've been told the discs could be warped could this cause the ABS problem?

any advice please

hi there

might be, but could be one of a number of things.

wraped discs, wheel bearings, abs control module.

Hi, Dazzer, I have the same problem also. It happened to me on the way home from harewood, exactly the same problem. I havn't used the car since. However, I took it to a garage today for new brakes and discs all round and the ABS light came on and stayed there. I,ve asked my mechanic to investigate, so I'll let u know if I find out anything useful when it's done.

got new pads and discs monday ???, front ABS sensors had been cleaned. The discs were broken, previous owner had only replaced the pads and had not greased them! ABS light went off then. today went out ABS light back on, stayed on on a 15 minute journey. On return, ABS light came on, then went off after 500 yards or so. Just before, done a 10 mile journey, no ABS light at all. Just parked it away and it stayed on.
So, I don't really know what's happening????? ???

This is really twisting my melon man. ABS light on last night, 15 mile round trip. Just got in after doin an 8 mile run, first of all, that odd sensation occured on appliance of the footbrake, then no ABS light at all? I've read everything there is on ABS diagnostics etc, but these symptoms don't seen to marry up with the text book? Its had front sensors cleaned and brand new pads& discs all round. Any ideas anyone? ???

If the ABS light is on at start-up and stays on, then it is possible that the fault is in the wiring or sensors. The most obvious potential for faults is the wiring connector in the front wheel arches, because of the muck thrown up under the car.

If you haven't already checked these connectors, then make and break the joints a few times to clean them. You will need to remove the road wheels to get at them. Whilst you're at it, check the resistance of the cable to the ABS sensors; should be around 1090 ohms at the joint connector. If not, could be either the cable or the sensor causing the problem.

Hope this helps.

yeah, they've been cleaned, I think it may be the cable or something as it is so tempremental. some days it stays off, then I'll get that horrid feeling on the brake pedal, others it comes on from start, stays on but will not encounter any happenings from the brake pedal. Either way it's a garage jobby cos I ain't got no tools. Thanks for the advice.
