Title: still wont go.... part two. Post by xr4s_r_ace on Jul 9th, 2007, 8:47pm have dropped a 24v bob cossie engine in my xr4i, it is wired up as per drawing. it starts and then stops immeadiatley. had a test bulb wired into the fuel pump and it goes out a micro second before the engine stops suggesting a power cut to the relay. for test purposes their is no exhaust on the car from the manifolds so the post lambda sensors are not connected, will this cause the engine not to start ? any ideas much appreciated. cheers pete. :-/ |

Title: Re: still wont go.... part two. Post by Highlander on Jul 9th, 2007, 8:59pm Fuel pump relay? Have you tried a direct feed to the pump? Does sound like the ECU is turning it off for some reason though.. All the plug leads etc in the correct order? ;) I know the ECU will turn off the injectors if the engine doesnt fire correctly within a second or so |

Title: Re: still wont go.... part two. Post by xr4s_r_ace on Jul 9th, 2007, 9:43pm thanks for that, will try the direct feed to the fuel pump, bought the relay off this site and was told it was in good order. the engine sounds sweet as a nut when it runs, no coughing banging or farting, then it just stops. wish i,d got the BOA engine now... ha. your car looks smart by the way. |

Title: Re: still wont go.... part two. Post by Highlander on Jul 9th, 2007, 10:07pm How long does it run for exactly? is it the same every time? |

Title: Re: still wont go.... part two. Post by xr4s_r_ace on Jul 10th, 2007, 11:10pm it sometime varies, the longest is about three seconds, but it does respond to to gas pedal. could it be due to the fact that the post cat lambda sensors are,nt connected ??? |

Title: Re: still wont go.... part two. Post by TiberiuS on Jul 11th, 2007, 12:17am Not sure, but I doubt they'd stop it running, it would run in open loop mode until it heated up in any case, the lambda sensors wouldn't be used by the ECU until then. Certainly sounds like fuel starvation to me. What Scorpio parts have you got on it? Is it just the engine? Or is the PATS etc in there? I know zilch about the Sierra, really sounds to me like fuel though...does it flood at all? :-/ |

Title: Re: still wont go.... part two. Post by Highlander on Jul 11th, 2007, 7:46am Post cat sensors wouldnt stop it running no. PATS problem wouldnt allow it to crank at all but i assume you have this bypassed/disabled anyway? try bridging the relay terminals to eliminate the relay as the problem. Fuel pressure regulator possibly? |

Title: Re: still wont go.... part two. Post by Scorpio_Mike on Jul 11th, 2007, 9:55am Just a thought but...have you retained the XR4i fuel pump & purple relay ? This relies on impulse from the ignition coil to keep the fuel pump running - a safety feature to stop fuel pumping if the engine stops I believe. The Scorpio has no ignition coils so wondering if this could be the problem ? I think you can switch the purple fuel pump relay with a standard headlight relay which will make the pump run all the time - ok for testing purposes but obviously don't leave it like that. I have heard of this being used this as a get-you-home fix as the purple fuel pump relay is a weak part and fails quite regularly - happened to me in both my Mk2 Grannies and my XR4i - always used to carry a spare one with me ! |

Title: Re: still wont go.... part two. Post by xr4s_r_ace on Jul 11th, 2007, 9:38pm the engine is a standard 24v BOB cossie and its wired up to a new scorpio loom thats never been in a car. the ECU is used and as far as i know was ok when i bought it. the point mentioned about PATS is interesting. on the wiring diagram for the fuel pump relay it shows pin 80 as black and blue and pin 54 as black and white, yet on my ECU its reversed, stating pin 54 with pats. have tried it on pin 80 and it dosent work, so what is this passive anti theft all about, and will it be on my loom.... ??? ??? ??? sounds like clucking bell |
