When going home from work yesterday. I returned to the car to find could not get the key fob to work. To open the doors I had to get in through the tail gate as the key will not unlock the doors??? why is that?
Having had this happen before...I thought no problem I'll reset when I get home..... You've guessed it. It won't reset. Anyone got any ideas???

When I had to get in through the tailgate to open the doors. It didn't set the alarm off, as it has done in the past. Is that of any relavance?

Any help or advice on this one appreciated.

You need the key to take the dead lock off the doors otherwise the alarm is still active.

sounds like your key/locks are worn. try it in the passenger door as well or go to ford MD and get a new key cut . ( does not have to one of the programmed type with the red button in ) just so you can ipen the doors then reprogramme the remote and use the new key in the ignition as long as the original key is CLOSE it should work OK

The locks are probably worn so the key will not activate them. The boot,no doubt having less use , is ok though. The remedy is to replace the tumblers in the locks. Details are on the site. HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/doorlockbld.htm). If the alarm will not reset the usual cause is that one of the lock mechanisms is not connecting correctly. Try WD 40 on the mechanisms....NOT in the keyways. I see Snoopy was 'on the case' at the same time!. ;D

sounds like from what your saying I need to look at the door locks. I am at work this morning. So I'll have a look this afternoon. Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know how i get on.

Just had a play with the passenger side door lock with the key. After which the key fob now works :) its the drivers side that won't unlock with the key. I guess you were right snoopy the alarm was still active so would not reset. So all is well. Thanks again for the advice chaps......I love this site.
