Post by cueball57 on Aug 20th, 2007, 1:14pm
I have had a 96 ultima 2.9 12v for about a month , And have just noticed that the hand brake doesnt click when you put it on :-[ . I was just wondering if this is normal f as it locks in position as it locks on ok.

I have Ghia'96 2.3, and handbrake does click when I pull it up into lock position.
Check low brake fluid warning indicator. It should be on when you turn on ignition and have handbrake locked, and should disappear when you unlock handbrake.

If you hold the button in the handbrake won't click as you pull it up.

But if you are pulling it up without holding the button in & it's still not clicking then I would suspect that the rachet teeth have worn down & it may well fail at some point  :)

Are you sure it's actually holding & it's not just the aoutobox being in 'park' that is stopping the car from rolling away ?  :)

It's definetly holding, Infact the car passed an mot last month. But it might have stopped clicking since then.
Im not holding the button in when i pull the brake on , prehaps something has started to stick in there. I will  give it a good soaking in wd40 at the weekend to see if that helps
