Hi All,

I know this is probably a common, reccurring question,
but can any one help.
I used to have a reccurring 57 code showing whenever I interrogated the cc system but never having had any problems but just reset it anyway.
I now find that I have no hot air coming in when I put it to HI and have an 07 fault on interrogation which keeps coming back even after a reset. I know the weather is mild at the mo but I would have thought that it should give me warm if not hot air on the chilly mornings set at a high temp.
The fans seem to be behaving normally, just no warm air. Does the HBC contol the fan speed only or does it contol the entry of hot water to the matrix or hot air through the flaps.
My question is, would a new HBC likeky to cure the problem?

the HBC just controls fan speed nothing else.....no point in replacing if no hot air

if no hot air on I assume the matrix is blocked or could be the climate control unit though doubt it.

Nothing controls the entry of hot water to the matrix, it just flows through constantly...well it should do.

Check that the matrix outlet pipe is as hot as the inlet pipe....if not, then the matrix could be blocked/restricted or have an airlock :)

Just checked codes again and got 51, 52, and 57 in one hit.

The first two codes point toward a faulty SATC or control panel & 57 is still an HBC fault.

Have you checked the ribbon cable is tight behind the control panel - you get codes 51 & 52 if the panel is removed & ignition turned on, so possibility of poor connection?

If the ribbon cable is loose, doesn't the blower just blow at full whack :-/....well it did on mine :)

Certainly the fan flat out is a common symptom of a loose cable, but with 34 wires in the cable I guess it could cause other problems – at least worth checking before getting a replacement.

The codes 51 and 52 hae now gone after reset. As you say the appear after the ribbon has been disconected, didn't know that at the time, so that explains them.
Overall i think the fans and atc seem to be functioning as they should but just no heat. Apart from the prospect of the matrix being blocked (ah!!!!!!), is there anyhting else that could be stopping the hot air, i.e. flaps that should be opening and allowing the hot air through the vent system?

Hi all,

Think I've found the problem and all is well. :D
Found what seemed to be the matrix pipes at the bulkhead and found one was very hot (drivers side)and the other not.
Gave both pipes either side of the engine a few good squeezes and it seemed to get a bit hotter (passenger side). Carried on for a good few minutes and now seems nice and hot. Upping the cabin dial to Hi I now have hot air back. Must have been an airlock, I'm hoping. Never had air lock problems before.

Be hopes it wasn't scale build up in the pipes cos you will now have broken it up and it will be in the matrix ???
It would be an idea to take the pipes of and give the whole system a good flush out, squeeze all the pipes and you may be amazed at what comes out.... :o

Where is the best place on the system to remove the pipes for the best flush through.

Disconnect both the pipes on the heater matrix and flush it through both ways.
Remove the Thermostat and the bottom hose on the radiator, flush engine and rad both ways.

While flushing, if you gently squeeze all the pipes it will loosen any scaly deposits from the inner walls.

Fit a new stat and reconnect everything and fill with water, go for a longish drive and then empty the system again from the bottom hose.

DON'T FILL HOT ENGINE WITH COLD WATER

Now fill with 50/50 coolant and run the engine to the working temperature with the top still off the expansion header tank, this will allow any air to escape. You should be carefull not to splash water all over any electrics during the procedure or it could cause more problems.
