Title: Temperature Gauge
Post by Kenboy on Sep 17th, 2007, 2:36pm
Hi, thoughts please Just of late the the temperature gauge shows no signs of a sensible reading the needle stays on bottom cold constantly It was only last year I changed the thermostat and all was well the only thing I can say is when the ignition is switched on the needle flickers just momentarily as you would expect so I believe power is getting to the switch There may be a bad earth somewhere can any tell me were the sender unit is located.

Many Thanks Kenboy

Only if you can tell us what engine it is ;)

They are mostly on the front centre of the engine, 2.0 and 2.3 on the front of the inlet manifold, 24v on the front centre just under the engine cover.

The sender unit is usually the problem, sometimes wiring

The temp sensor is on the thermostat housing just below the matrix outlet pipe & has a squarish multiplug.

If you pull off the multiplug & short the two connections together with a length of wire then the temp guage should rise into the red & stay there.

This should prove that the wiring & guage are fine, & that it is indeed the sensor which is at fault  :)

That multi-plug seems to be a regular culprit for the temperature gauge problems :D

If it causes so many problems for the guage, I'm surprised it has not shown up as the cause of other problems as so many other signals pass through it. Perhaps the gauge problems are so much more obvious?

Isnt there a different temp sensor for the ECU Harry?
