Title: Dodgy petrol Post by gemeg22171 on Oct 4th, 2007, 11:37pm Hi all, Three days ago I (STUPIDLY) put 40lts of tesco petrol in the scorpio. Since then mpg down from 29 to 25 and the gear box has started 'hunting' real smooth before. Could the petrol have this effect on the GB? Would filling up with 97 oct make any difference, perhaps by strengthening the rubbish still in the tank? :-[ @ |

Title: Re: Dodgy petrol Post by Highlander on Oct 5th, 2007, 2:39pm I would doubt its the petrol, can you get an OBD scan done? Cleaning the MAF might help to start with (if its not a 12v ):) |

Title: Re: Dodgy petrol Post by jonnycab on Oct 7th, 2007, 7:17pm I occasionally (usually after shopping when you get 5p a litre off) fill up with Tesco 99 octane petrol & I reckon it's good stuff ;) Never been tempted to buy their 95 octane petrol though ;) |

Title: Re: Dodgy petrol Post by gemeg22171 on Oct 10th, 2007, 11:37pm It is a twelve valve so no MAF. I did get the 95 oct. I used up the petrol - long steady drive on m/way, engine rough losing power, I think causing the GB problem, MPG down to 24. Filled right up, almost immediate improvement in power. GB now OK and MPG back over 28. Slim chance not dodgy petrol - but I know what I think. ;D |

Title: Re: Dodgy petrol Post by cuzza on Oct 11th, 2007, 9:26pm I work near seal sand ....theres a petrolum plant there and all the supermarkets get there petrol from there ....tescos, morrisons ,asda, sainsburys ...all of them, more likely to be condensation in the filling station tanks or a contamination in the supply tanker ...ie not cleaned correctly from last... load it could have been carrying chemicals or anything, happens more often than you would think .... :o ::) |
