Title: 24V Will not idle after winter WOT throttle start Post by grandadman on May 31st, 2008, 2:36pm Hi folks, to overcome the horrible death rattle of the timing chain tensioners I used the recommended WOT start in the colder winter months, which, as you might guess, was a constant drain in the battery. Since the warmer days have now arrived I don't need to do the WOT start, BUT, I recharged my battery recently and refitted it to the car. Started the engine up but on my drive the car will not idle, I rev up to 2 or 3k release the accelerator and she dies. the engine runs fine on a steady 1000 rpm or more but just will not idle as it should... Anybody had this before or can help me over this small annoying problem ??? btw What causes the t/c rattle when the weather is cold ~ I would love somebody to explain in detail what occurs at these tensioners? Lastly, when is the Harewood Hall motor show and where can I find details of it? Cheers in anticipation of all your help Grandadman |

Title: Re: 24V Will not idle after winter WOT throttle st Post by scorpio_man on May 31st, 2008, 2:49pm hi there sounds like the idle bypass valve is playing up. it's under the 24v cover near the rear of the engine top. take it off and clean with carb cleaner. work the 'ram' with a couple of drops of light oil. btw, remember which side the plug is as you can fit it back facing the wrong way. details for harewood house are here... http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=admin12;action=display;num=1210330226 hth |
