Title: Autobox cooler pipes
Post by Neil W on Jun 10th, 2008, 2:18pm
The autobox cooler pipes flexible connectors at the cooler itself are leaking. I have suitable replacement pipes and connectors: one goes to the gearbox and the other to the radiator. (The third pipe is between radiator and autobox and does not need replacing. In any case it is obsolete apparently.)

Does anyone have experience of this job, and is it as simple as it looks  :o.

Cheers,

Neil W.

Neil, have a read of THIS thread (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Advice;action=display;num=1209380454;start=5#5) and see if that helps in the absence of any other replies so far.

Thanks Simmo,

I'll have a go this afternoon  :P and see how I get on. I notice the cooler itself could do with cleaning (covered in oil) so I might as well sort that out at the same time.

Cheers,

Neil W.

Careful of the pipes coming out of the cooler, they are very brittle and can break easily when removing the old rubber hoses

Thanks Highlander.

Having spent a pleasant  >:( hour under the car it would appear that the only way to access the cooler pipe nuts at the autobox end is to remove the CATS and support bracket. This is a job I don't want to tackle right now, so a temporary solution might be to replace the rubber connectors at the cooler in the way suggested by Snoopy some time ago.

Thanks anyway.

The use  of Reinforced rubber hydraulic hosing is another method , much easier to cut out the rotten peice(s) and replace using clips to secure, but rubber petrol hose is MORE than sufficient and possibly easier to cut and fix.

There is NOT a great pressure inside the system and my new pipes where secured at the cooler end with jubilee clips and they are still there , no problems reported although I no longer have the car .

Thanks Snoopy,

Yes, I agree that your method is the way to go and this is what I'll do. The thought of tackling the CATS (new last year) and exhaust system is a job too far when you are working under a jacked up (on stands) vehicle - for me anyway  ;D.

Cheers,

Neil W.
