Hi,

I've bought a 2nd key fob for my Scorpio Ultima 24V Cosworth so that my wife could open the car my remote.

Since programming the fob using the instructions on this site I've been having problems opening the car with one or other of the remote fobs.

Thinking about the problem I guess it is caused by the alarm code changing and not matching one of the fobs? Is their anyway of using two fobs on the car if my wife only occasionally uses hers? It would just have been nice for her to operate the fob and open the door with the seat set without needing to press her setting button etc.

Strange... :o If you did the programming correctly there should be no problem... But I got rid of my Ford alarm/central locking units long time ago and replaced them with Clifford, so maybe somebody who has left his can provide you with more details on this ...

Program them both at the same time (just press unlock in order) with the *red* key. It's at least worth a try. There should be a chime after you press each of them. If you get only one of the two to work at the same time, this should solve it (took me a while to realize).

The importance of using the red key is not really mentioned in the guide.

My wife is not really as enthusiastic about the scorp as I am, and uses it only occasionally. Works all the time. For some reason, it's possible to have my wife's fob without batteries for days without needing to reprogram, but mine needs to be reprogrammed as soon batteries are taken out.

But pressing the remote 10 times without acknowledgement will unsynchronize it, the likeliness of that increases over time :)

Cause there is no need to use the master key. Programming the fob works with every key. Master key is for programming additional keys.

As far as I remember there is no way you can program 2 fobs at the same time, after you push the button on one you get a confirmation beep and you need to start the procedure again for the second fob.

Mondeoman, investigate your central-locking ecu unit, just behind the glovebox, the one with 3 sockets and 2 plugs, just above the main ECU.

It also might be a good idea to change the batteries is both fobs for a little bit stronger ones, this trick usually increases the fob's range + investigate the fob's buttons, they tend to get worn and a bit of tin foil does the trick ;)

If you read the instructions HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/remote.htm) it says quite clearly that having programmed one fob you IMMEDIATELY press unlock on the second fob so that,presumably, they are accepting the same code. ;)

never heard something like this, nor here nor on 2 polish forums... very strange.

People usually don't have the red key and have no problems programming the fob with the black key. Like I said the red key to my knowledge end experience was only for programming new keys not fobs.

You may be right that it has to do something with the very earliest Scorpios, as there aren't too many of them there is a chance that no one who had fob related questions on all 3 forums I use had a the 1994 models...

But still it's very strange... Though I heard that there were 2 types of centrallocking units/ECUs. An earlier one and a later one, this might be the answer actually to the case...

As Woj say's you only need the black key to programme the fobs, I programmed my 2 fobs just with the black key after you turn the key to pos 1 on the fourth turn you here a beep then press the unlock button on one then the other and job done.....you should be able to programm upto 6 fobs...

No argue about the method.

Well, on my car it's like this, I struggled several hours with it with the manual besides me to get it just right, and only the red one worked in the end... with the first try. And my car has already been titled "Scorpio first" by Stuart because of factory fitted saloon self-levelling suspension, so if my has more differences I'm not surprised. Mine is a german RHD, but most polish scorps are from there I assume.

Anyway, if everything else fails, it doesn't hurt to try with the red key, if one is still available. Let's now wait for mondeoman's report. And ofcourse dead batteries must be ruled out of the story. I've seen fobs (not scorpio) that have ruined new batteries in no time!

With the key in the ignition, turn the ignition on to the I position, then off and then again three times, then once more and leave it at I. A beep will sound showing that the system is set to program.

Now press the unlock button on the remote. Press the unlock button on any other remotes that you have to program at the same time.

Now turn the ignition off. A beep will sound indicating that program mode is finished.

i think they now charge 60£ for this :o of course if you can find a dealership that remembers the Scorpio :P

Did I not read somewhere on here that the fob reprogramming instructions in the manual are wrong ?

Well, the guides on the site are usually so good you sometimes call it the manual. I meant the guide ofcourse :)

I've got an M reg Scorpio 2.9 24V Saloon which I've been trying to programme the two fobs. I've tried the suggested method of reprogramming both fobs at the same time and at the moment they seem to be working, but time will tell. I do find you really have to push the button to get the car to unlock.

Oh just so everyone knows I'm a convert from Mondeoman to Scorpioman!
Think the mrs might be wanting a 2nd Scorpio to match mine but with a smaller engine

Good to hear you solved it!

The contacts inside the fob may require clening + the batteries might be almost empty.

Wish my wife would be that easy to convert :)
