Title: o/d light flashing,
Post by ro284 on Jan 5th, 2011, 9:28pm
The car has been off the road few a month now, while i get it ready for mot, thought i'd charge the batt and run the engine, fired up first time, but have a regular flashing o/d light! can anyone tell me what this means please? thanks, Bob

Mine did this the other daybut it stopped flashing after a while so i am guessing it was a side effect of low battery voltage

This (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/odlight.htm) page may help. ;) but Stixy could well have a point.

Yeah, could be low battery, if so a run will clear it, if not code read is order of the day first, before deciding what to poke / prod / kick / change LOL

Regards Dave

Thanks guys, i was wondering why it's called an O/D light, Its so wet at the moment i cant work on the car, (needs fuel tank, brake pipes, wishbones,)and can't drive it till i get an mot, hopefully it might clear when i can get it on the road,

"O/D" = overdrive, I presume yours is an auto ;D

Green button on side of transmission speed selector enables/disables overdrive (4th gear). Shows constant "O/D off" if, er, off...

Doubles up as MIL (?) light, i.e. engine/transmission fault warning, which is when it flashes

Or am I stating the obvious? ;D

Thanks Mike, it is an auto! i thought O/D meant Oh/Dear!
The battery is a bit small! I.m hoping it will be ok when i can give it a run for mot, i still got to fit some wishbones! very wet here! at the moment i'm doing my 2-3 cylinder head

Can mean "Oh/Dear", but only when it flashes ;D

Bit unusual though to start flashing straightaway you turn it on. Could dodgy gearbox wiring do that?

Hint ~ if I'm confined to speeds under 50 mph for a while (or not likely to see that much at all) I often turn O/D off.

Should be off by default (?)

Or is it flashing?

Clarification ~ when I say "turn O/D off", the green light actually lights up and transmission is confined to gears 1 - 3.

The normal state of affairs is no light and 4th is available.
