Title: Starter motor removal Post by lleewar on May 3rd, 2011, 12:57pm Hi guys, Removing gearbox from old car, but the starter motor doesn't seem to want to come out ??? I have removed the power connection, the three bolts and the bracket. It will will only move slightly. Is there a knack of getting it out or am I missing something ??? Thanks in advance Lee |

Title: Re: Starter motor removal Post by lleewar on May 3rd, 2011, 10:40pm Rod, the hardest part I found so far was removing the electrical connections because of the lack of space. Lee |

Title: Re: Starter motor removal Post by lesterlad aka Rodders on May 4th, 2011, 6:29pm Lee, I think I found out why your starter wouldn't budge after removing the three obvious bolts. I removed the one on the doner car today (2ltr 16v)after much swearing and cursing. Two of the bolts were easy enough, the third one (top one) faces the opposite way and was a nightmare to get at until I removed the oil filter, it was then I noticed a fourth bolt, this was on a bracket securing the rear of the starter and attached to the engine block. All done now. |

Title: Re: Starter motor removal Post by lleewar on May 5th, 2011, 12:17am Rod, Discovered that too. Bolts came out pretty easy I have to say, a wiggle and out it came. Took gearbox out today, same thing, bolts tight but came out OK, didn't notice the one right at the top.I was wondering why the bottom pulled out but the top stayed in place. Got there in the end :) |
