I've recently purchased a new Vehicle Speed Sensor for one of the 2.0l 16V Auto Scorpios and am getting around to swapping it this week.

I've noticed the speedo is reading low - as much as by half when cold, and always at least 10% even when warm so figure this could be part of the reason for clunky gear changes I have had for a long time.

I've had a hunt around and although there is a guide to changing the VSS on the site I was hoping for guidance on where exactly it is located on the gearbox as (to a lay mechanic like me) the diagrams don't tell me exactly where it is.

Are there any underside photos where I can pinpoint where to look for it, or is it going to be blindingly obvious when I get under the car? Will I need the car to be raised a lot or will it be fine on axle stands and do I have any underbody heatshields to remove to change it?

Any pointers appreciated.

Its on the tail shaft housing near the back of the transmission on the nearside held in by a 10mm bolt and clamp,quite an easy job.

btw, did you guys know you can fit AOD(E) vss gear to scorpio. They are available in very different amounth of teeth. makes calibrating speedo very easy.

I bought from ebay and it fits nicely except circlip doesnt go. But it REALLY does not need a circlip, once you got 10mm bolt turned tight.
