When you say "dark", were there street lights around, or was it properly like out-in-the-sticks country lane type pitch black?

It was ages before I knew all the door window winder buttons and things light up as well! Needs a good dark road to appreciate them properly.

The panel warning lights do dim when light switch is turned on, which is daft cos if you've got lights on in daytime e.g. it's raining and one of them does light up cos of a fault you'd be lucky to notice it at all in daylight.
