Title: Urgent help needed please Post by Tenfut on Feb 18th, 2017, 1:41pm Hi all MOT due in 4 weeks and the dreaded air bag light has reared its ugly head. I changed the cluster about 2 years ago with a used one off ebay and now that one has gone the same way as the original. Can anyone help with the solder job? I have never used a soldering iron in my life and pushing 70 I suppose its a bit late to learn!! I have just spent £££,s on wheel arches so really don't want to scrap the car if it fails on this issue. I am in West Lancashire near Preston but will travel accordingly. TIA Tony |

Title: Re: Urgent help needed please Post by a900one on Feb 18th, 2017, 7:40pm Hi tony, my air bag light comes on as well. I have put the side lights on to warm up the dash to get the broken solder joint to make and put the light off, took about 15/20 mins. Its may be a way around the problem, if it works for your dash. Mine was out when I got to the MOT station and on again after it passed. Have you still got the old dash. |

Title: Re: Urgent help needed please Post by Simmo on Feb 19th, 2017, 10:08am Sometimes a gentle 'thump' on the top of the dash will also correct it. ;) |

Title: Re: Urgent help needed please Post by Tenfut on Feb 19th, 2017, 10:30am Tried the gentle thump method which sometimes works but them it re-appears. I would really prefer a more permanent fix if there is anyone out there with the know how. Tony |

Title: Re: Urgent help needed please Post by a900one on Feb 19th, 2017, 11:41am Have a look at this. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=admin;action=display;num=1398512782 I have done the repair on a spare, need magnifying glass to see crack, but not tried to get dash out to try it. Have you thought about taking your spare dash to an electrical repair shop, you could get it ready for just the soldering. |

Title: Re: Urgent help needed please Post by Tenfut on Feb 19th, 2017, 4:19pm I decided to try the "create some heat" method by putting a small fan heater on the drivers seat and aiming it at the dash and lo and behold the light went out when the ignition was switched on. I will try this over the next few days and see what transpires but I don't see it as a permanent fix. Would still appreciate a repair from a soldering expert if anyone can help. Happy to provide beer tokens and or site donation. Tony |

Title: Re: Urgent help needed please Post by a900one on Feb 19th, 2017, 5:15pm The warm up method is just a get you through the mot. only permanent fix is to solder. Will the airbag work if the light is on ? |

Title: Re: Urgent help needed please Post by Tenfut on Feb 19th, 2017, 5:36pm How to test if it works? |

Title: Re: Urgent help needed please Post by bernard_slade on Feb 23rd, 2017, 12:19pm whether it still works if the light is on is a bit academic as every airbag fitted to scorpios is well past its expiry date and strangely i have never seen any evidence that they are available as a service replacement-luckily the mot ignores this fact and simply insists that the wiring is functional--count forward 15 years from your cars build date and you then have the expiry date which is actually markedon the base of the airbag pad but can only be seen if the airbag is removed from the steering wheel |

Title: Re: Urgent help needed please Post by Scorpio_Mike on Feb 23rd, 2017, 3:32pm Tricky question - air bags are one-time use only so no way of testing them anyway. I know people who have experienced both random deployment and failure to deploy in an accident - and I believe both cars were in warranty. |
