Title: P0171 code - Bank 1 running lean Post by Jackattack2002 on Aug 31st, 2024, 12:20pm Hi everyone. I have owned a 24V estate for nearly 18 months, but I still cannot get it to run properly. The remaining code left is P0171 and it runs like a bag of spanners, but starts first time (every time) and will tick over all day long. I have replaced all the HO2S sensors, had the injectors cleaned, you name it and there are no obvious vacuum leaks. I am running out of ideas on potential faults that will only affect one bank. Are there any 24V Jedi Masters out there that can offer any clues or pointers? |

Title: Re: P0171 code - Bank 1 running lean Post by cobrascim on Aug 31st, 2024, 2:22pm Is the exhaust on that side fully sealed? All manifold gaskets ok because if it draws air into the exhaust it will affect the sensor reading. |

Title: Re: P0171 code - Bank 1 running lean Post by cobrascim on Sep 3rd, 2024, 10:09am No Probs. Check the EGR connections if its the drivers side causing problems. It can be a right pain getting into that area mind you. The EGR goes up and connects underneath the back of the inlet manifold behind the throttle body. Has all the wiring up the V been replaced /inspected? |

Title: Re: P0171 code - Bank 1 running lean Post by Jackattack2002 on Sep 4th, 2024, 4:22pm I have re-sleeved a significant chunk of the engine-bay loom and re-wired the engine/gearbox loom. I have managed to prove the EGR is leaking (smoke tested), but from the valve body internals and not the joints. I will also get a fuel-pump (pressure) test done. Bank 2 Cat is shot, but it's Bank 1 that is lean. RPM tick over is stable, but the car rattles my fillings when idling and is dog rough at low revs. |

Title: Re: P0171 code - Bank 1 running lean Post by cobrascim on Sep 5th, 2024, 1:33am I would clean up the MAF sensor but it's one of those faults that could be a number of things as shown in this video. Give it a watch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2WrUIIuAkzg Saying bank one but it may be a generic lean code as described here https://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/dtcode.htm As a check on a V engine I would swap any sensors over from side to side and see if a fault swaps sides but to be honest I think this will be a generic lean code as I said above and may be the airflow meter.. |

Title: Re: P0171 code - Bank 1 running lean Post by Jackattack2002 on Sep 11th, 2024, 6:40pm Not completely fixed it yet, but I think I have found the culprits. Cleaned the MAF to start with. EGR tube hoses were on the wrong way round (inherited from purchase) and my No 1 injector is leaking fuel from around the rubber seals. Low rev performance has improved a little by swapping the hoses, but still got the injector to change |
