Mines comming up to 15 years old now.

Has anyone here got Classic Car Insurance for their Scorp?

If so what are the pros and cons. Is it cheaper, are you better covered?

I don't think the Scorp is quite there yet,though you could try it,the salient feature of classic cover is an annual set mileage,and agreed value usually defined via a set of photographs,I pay about £90 for a 1960 Beardmore cab.

They deal with Equity Red Star

I got a 1986 2.8i Sierra XR4x4 insured for just £103 with 3,000 mile annual limit.  

Got to be worth a try.

A mate of mine has just got his H reg Mercedes 190 put on a classic policy.

I think you need to have it insured as a 2nd car though - it can't be your main or only car  ???

My Capri was insured with Footman James £ 105.00,
fully comp, unlimited mileage & agreed value.

I think the car has to be about 21 years old the be a classic ?, i may be wrong ?

I looked on the Hastings website recently at their 'Classic policy section' - Mk3 Granada Scorpio is listed up to 1994 - so maybe it's 15 years ???

My mate has a 1991 Merc 190 2.6 which he got a classic quote for recently - about £93 I think it was, not sure which company.

I enquired and was told 'yes' - the Scorpio can be considered for classic insurance if I have a newer car for everyday use and the Scorpio is either garaged or kept on a secure driveway, mileage limited to 3k or 5k per year.

my scorpio cossy is classic insured in ni cost me £139 fully comp, www.cccinsurance.co.uk but you need  to be a member of a classic club to get this one far as i no as i was asked for a club mem. number etc

"Classic" qualification age varies from company to company. I've used these policies for 20 years with various companies. Bear in mind they accrue no no claims.

RH penalised me on my Nissan 300ZX as it is an import, in spite of the fact they are identical to UK-supplied ones, and I only pay about 200 quid for my Scorp, which is my main car (of course), through Admiral.
Not that I'd recommend them, mind.

Do we like insurance sellers or solicitors best? Hard one, that.

Read somewhere the other day that 3rd party cover is more expensive than comprehensive.

This doesn't help my feelings towards insurance sellers  >:(

Ah yes, read just recently in old newspaper (re finance tips) it's because they assume that YOU think you are a risk by asking for 3rd party in the first place lol ;D

Ergo they bump it up on that basis (you are a greater risk)

This is based on their past experience apparently

I insured my scorp with RH, as I changed my number on to the car, I had a new statement of needs . On the new statement, next to the estimated value, they had added that they would only pay the market value, at the time of total loss. >:(  Now what is the market value when there is only app 500 left, and only 379 on the road. The chance of me replacing my car is about none. I have rung them about this, and if I could put it in a garage they will value it at my value of, £2500.

I,ve got an old Dennis fire engine (1969), the bloke I bought it from insured it as a classic with NFU Mutual,I followed suit,they charge me £100 and are very easy and pleasant to deal with,rare indeed  8)

Call me 'Mr-Cynical' but Insurance companies are only going to insure you if you have no-risk.   I would never insure my Scorp in a special policy like 'classic' because I want to use my car 'as-normal'.   I'll get nothing for my car if it's crashed in any way, but I remain fully insured including home-start and rescue and a full NCD protected for about £210.  If the Scorp was a fatality I'd buy it back, and look for another to make one out of two.   I'd never do classic, it's full of their rules.    :-/
